To the editor: As a retired nurse and senior citizen, I have continually come across the negative attributes of Big Pharma. The commercials!
Every time I turn on the TV they want me to go ask my doctor about a new medication. But these medications are expensive. It seems to me that they are pushing us to the more expensive medications regardless of outcome.
Like most senior citizens, I am on a medication that I frequently see commercials for. This medication costs me hundreds of dollars a month because it is not properly covered by Medicare. I am to the point of asking my doctor how to get my medication from Canada. They have the generic version in Canada, but not in the U.S.
The sad fact is, Big Pharma is charging more in the U.S. than they are in Canada. Seventy percent of Big Pharma profits come from the U.S., but we only have 4.2 percent of the world’s population.
It’s time our government leaders stepped in and stood up to Big Pharma and the wealthy lobbyist carrying their tune.
