Maumee Bay State Park is going to get a little brighter this weekend as it will be hosting the Water Lantern Festival on Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Water Lantern Festival, which holds events all over the world, was voted as the No. 1 festival in the world by USA Today, according to the festival’s website. The festival has a reputation for creating lasting memories among attendees.

Yolexi Martinez, who attended the festival at Maumee Bay last year, said that it was unforgettable.

“The atmosphere of the entire experience was amazing,” Martinez said. “I would definitely attend the festival again. It is a unique experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.”

Those who attend get the opportunity to write messages on their lanterns before sending it off into the water. Martinez said this was a touching experience for her.

“Being able to write down goals I hope to accomplish motivated me to work even harder toward achieving them,” Martinez said. “Releasing it into the water wasn’t sad, but exciting and uplifting. Watching it float away brought a smile to my face and reminded me that I am capable of accomplishing everything I set out to do.”

Tickets for the Water Lantern Festival are on sale now and can be purchased at https://www.waterlanternfestival.com/. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, sunscreen and bug spray.
