Serving Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wood Counties
The Toledo Zoo recently welcomed the newest member of its reticulated giraffe herd and he’s neck-level adorable.
Eugene, a 130-pound male, was born on Saturday, Jan. 17, to mom, Lily, and dad, Rocket. This is Lily’s first calf and Rocket’s second. His first calf, Franklin, was born in 2023.
After a gestation period of roughly 15 months, a neonatal exam found that both Lily and Eugene are healthy and thriving.
The zoo’s keepers are closely monitoring the pair and successfully introduced Eugene to herd members Franklin, Charlotte Michelle, Ellie and Rae.
Guests will have the opportunity to see Eugene through the giraffe indoor viewing window near Tower Ridge. Viewings may vary.
