Sunshine Communities, a nonprofit supporting people with developmental disabilities in Northwest Ohio, will be featured on the national public television series “All Access with Andy Garcia.” The short-form documentary program highlights innovation, leadership, and social change.
The documentary also includes perspectives from organizational leadership on the developmental disabilities industry as a whole and how Sunshine continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.
The segment provides an inside look at Sunshine Communities. Founded in 1950 by parents of children with developmental disabilities, Sunshine was created to ensure individuals are known, supported, and part of a true community. Today, it has grown into a comprehensive provider supporting individuals with a wide range of needs, including those with complex medical conditions.
One key feature from the documentary is a personal story from a local father, Phil Skeldon, who shares how Sunshine Communities has supported his daughter, Lily, following the loss of his wife to breast cancer. He describes the organization as a source of stability, connection, and peace of mind for his family.
Another feature is Michael Ann Feldkircher, a longtime resident who has lived at Sunshine since childhood, focusing on her growth, independence, and participation in Sunshine Studios.
The segment also addresses the role of philanthropy. Shannon Bova, Chief Philanthropy Officer, explains that while Sunshine Communities receives government funding, donor support enhances programs, strengthens infrastructure, and improves quality of life for those supported.
“This feature provides an opportunity for those who may be unfamiliar with Sunshine — or who may have a limited understanding — to gain a deeper and more comprehensive view of the breadth of our work,” Jason Abodeely, President and CEO of Sunshine Communities, said.
The segment will air nationally across major cable news networks, including CNN, Fox New, CNBC, and more. Sunshine Communities encourages families, community members, and supporters to watch and learn more about its services and impact.
