The village council in Millbury held its first monthly meeting of the calendar year on Jan. 12, electing Kevin Sanders as its president for a second consecutive year. He has two areas he’d like to focus on this year in terms of improvement.
“I definitely think we've heard the citizens,” Sanders said. “Streets are a big one for us. Finishing up some things with the parks, as well, are some of our biggest goals moving forward for next year.”
In addition to Sanders, the meeting saw the swearing-in of Becky Abbey as a council member, joining current council members Ron Mangus and Mike Mikolajczyk. Council also approved the recommendation of mayor Michael Timmons to appoint Tim Clapsaddle and Larry Ellison to fill the other two vacant council seats.
Council members approved and reviewed the new year’s committee appointments and positions, which preceded a presentation of the state of the village address.
It was also announced that street commissioner Keith Nusbaum will be retiring effective immediately due to personal reasons, and parks commissioner Mike Densic will help fill some of his duties until a replacement is named.
Council also wanted to remind residents of the trash expectations in the village. Residents are permitted two trash toters, with one being a 96-gallon provided by Republic Services and a second one provided at the resident’s expense or a resident-owned toter. Up to three additional items are allowed, each to not exceed 40 pounds.
As of press time, council was slated to hold its 2026 budget meeting on Jan. 15. The town’s regular council meetings are slated for the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next one will be Feb. 9.
