PREVIEW: Woodmore Cross Country

Lacy Seamans begins her seventh year in charge of the Woodmore cross country program, looking to build off last year’s SBC River Division championship on the girls side, while the ascension of the boys program continues with a strong freshmen class.

The girls, who also qualified for regionals a season ago after a sixth-place finish at districts, return the trio of Peyton Damschroder, Addie Lowry, and Morgan Farber. All three qualified for regionals. Damschroder’s personal best of 21:39 helped her produce a sixth-place finish at the SBC meet. Lowry was 15th at the same event, and she tallied a 22:41 PR. Farber earned Honorable Mention All-SBC recognition with a PR of 22:54.

That group will be joined by Hazel Baranowski, who is in her first season of cross country after placing second in the 800 at last year’s middle school track meet, and Grace Blausey, who was eighth in the middle school’s SBC cross country championship.

Seamans and the Wildcats will have to overcome the departure of Wren Lewis, who is focusing on soccer this year.

“Wren was an extremely consistent runner for us last year and had a strong track season in the middle distances,” Seamans said. “This year’s team is young and looking to finish at the top end of the new SBC and earn a trip back to regionals. Many of them had strong track seasons, and we’ve had good turnouts at summer training.”

On the boys side, Seamans believes her team has a lot of potential despite finishing sixth in the SBC River Division and 12th at districts a season ago.

“I’m excited to see what this young team will accomplish together this season,” Seamans said. “We have already seen some PRs in summer 5Ks, and I think this team has the potential to be in the top half of the SBC and make a regional bid.”

The team, which will have to replace last year’s top runner in Myles Byrd, returns a pair of regional qualifiers in Marcus Schroder (18:59 PR) and Quincy Millerschone (18:54 PR), as well as Santiago Quiroga (19:42 PR).

That trio, joined by a strong freshmen class of Cohen Broud, Cooper Martin, Cooper Hillkirk, and Grayson Thatcher, finished second at last year’s SBC Championship and qualified for the state meet.
