Longtime news editor, Larry Limpf, has officially retired from The Press after covering local suburban communities for more than four decades. Having garnered several awards for his work throughout the years, he will remain with the paper in a freelance role.
Nicholas Huenefeld has joined the editorial staff as news editor, covering the metro and suburban communities.
Huenefeld is local to Northwest Ohio, graduating from Lake High School and earning a bachelor’s in education with a major in sport communication and a minor in journalism from Bowling Green State University.
“I am really excited for this opportunity at The Press,” Huenefeld said. “This community is a really special place to me and having the opportunity to share the wonderful stories about what this area has to offer will be fun.”
Huenefeld also attended Owens Community College and was the editor in chief of the student newspaper during his time there.
He brings a wealth of experience to his position in The Press newsroom, having worked most recently as a sports writer at The Sentinel-Tribune in Bowling Green.
Prior to that, Huenefeld worked in college sports information, including stops at Owens Community College, Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Texas at Arlington. He also concurrently served as the sports information director for the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference from 2012-17.
He had two stints working at The Blade during that time as a copy editor with areas of focus in sports agate, photo editing and the web desk.
Over the years, he’s written freelance or had stories published in The Press, as well as in The Sentinel-Tribune, the Bluffton News, The Blade and the Toledo Free Press.
In November 2006, Huenefeld gained local fame for drinking ketchup on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.
In his spare time he enjoys doing sports photography.
