Prep softball roundup: NBC trio, Clay, Gibsonburg post strong performances

EASTWOOD (9-1, 2-0 NBC) opened league play with victories over Genoa (7-0) and Rossford (15-2 in 6 inn.).

Addy Loomis tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout while striking out 15 against Genoa. The offense, meanwhile, scored all seven of its runs in the third and fourth innings combined. Kenzie Hady (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs, HR), Karly Wasserman (2-for-4, 2 R), Makayla Hady (2-for-3), and Maddie Hartman (2-for-4, RBI) had multi-hit performances. Raegan Sabo (1-for-2, R, RBI) registered the team’s lone stolen base.

The Eagles racked up 17 hits against Rossford while pushing across 10 runs in the sixth inning to put the game away. Loomis (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 2B) and Kenzie Hady (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 3B) paced the offense, while Wasserman (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Maddie Sorg (2-for-4, R, 2B), Sophia Rankin (2-for-5, 2 RBIs, R), and Makayla Hady (2-for-3, 3 R) each had multiple hits. Sabo (4) and Hartman (3) also combined for seven runs batted in. Kenzie Hady delivered a complete game, allowing six hits, two runs (one earned), and one walk while striking out 13.

CLAY (7-1, 3-0 NLL) had a busy week, recording five more wins to push its winning streak to seven. In league play, the Eagles recorded victories over Whitmer (7-2), Southview (14-4 in 5 inn.), and Napoleon (11-1) before sweeping Monroe SMCC (4-3 in 8 inn. and 10-7).

Emily Cordell tossed a complete game victory against Whitmer, allowing just five hits, three walks, and one earned run with eight strikeouts. The Eagles offense scored four runs in the opening frame, while Ellie Haynes went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and an RBI. Lily Cordell and Zoi Zahradnik added one double apiece.

Zahradnik, Emily Cordell, and Jenna Swartz combined for the victory in the circle against Southview, while Cordell registered the win. Offensively, Clay sent 14 batters to the plate in the third, resulting in nine of the team’s runs. Maddie Franke (4-for-4, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs, 2 R) paced the overall attack, while Lily Cordell and Zahradnik each went 3-for-4. Haynes added a two-run home run.

Emily Cordell tossed a complete game, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out six to earn the win against Napoleon. Ellie Haynes had a pair of home runs, while Emily Cordell delivered a three-run home run. Zahradnik (2-for-2, 2B, RBI, HBP) and Lily Cordell (2-for-3) also contributed.

Emily Cordell was instrumental in the extra-inning opening win over SMCC, striking out 12 while walking four over eight frames. Belle Ringle (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) delivered a walk-off RBI single to right, scoring Brylee VanWormer. Franke (2-for-4, 2B) also contributed.

Swartz tossed five innings in the finale against SMCC to produce the victory, while Zahradnik earned a save. Haynes (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs) and Franke (2-for-4, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs) also recorded multi-hit outings. Lily Cordell had a home run to center.

LAKE (7-1, 1-0 NBC) opened league play with a 13-3 win in five innings over Rossford before defeating Bowling Green (10-4) and Lakota (10-0 in 6 inn.) in non-league matchups.

Caity Extine led the offense against Rossford, delivering a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and a pair of runs against her former school as the Flyers scored nine runs combined over the final two innings. Sophia Gruetter (2-for-3, 3 RBIs, R), Sophia Rudey (2-for-3, R, BB), Maddison Ankney (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs), and Jada Jerew (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) also had multi-hit performances. Sailor Lindell picked up the win in the circle, striking out 11 while allowing two hits, three runs (one earned), and one walk over five complete.

The long ball dominated Lake’s 10-4 win over BG, which included a pair of solo shots from Norah Demory. Rudey (4-for-4, 5 RBIs, 2 R) had a breakout game, including a solo home run, while Myah Wypyhoski (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R) had the other home run. Lindell (2-for-4, 2 R) added a multi-hit performance. Lindell picked up another complete game victory, striking out nine over seven while allowing just one earned run.

Wypyhoski (3-for-4, 3 R, RBI, 3B, 3 SB) and Lindell (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 3B) led the Lake offense against Lakota, while Gabby Moreno (2-for-3, R, 2B) had her first multi-hit game. Parker Dart and Rudey drove in a pair, Demory scored twice, and Leah Vick had a single off the bench. Overall, the Flyers had five extra base hits. Dart earned the win in the circle, striking out four while allowing just three hits in a six-inning complete game.

GIBSONBURG (6-1, 2-0 SBC) racked up three wins, opening league play with triumphs over St. Mary Central Catholic (19-3 in 5 inn.) and Hopewell-Loudon (9-0) before a non-league win over Wynford (3-2).

Gibsonburg totaled 16 hits against SMCC, producing multi-hit attacks from Hannah Crispen (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 2B), Ava Amor (2-for-2, R, RBI, BB), Leah Hall (2-for-4, 4 RBIs, 3 R, 2B, HR), and Emily Henderson (2-for-3, 4 RBIs, R, 2 2B). The Golden Bears had 10 extra base hits as Emma Jividen added a home run and Brooklyn Smith tripled. Mackenzie Muntz, Mia Brink, and Brynn Hoffman also doubled. Katie Hall got the win in the circle, going the distance while striking out six and allowing one earned run.

The Golden Bears scored in all but one inning against Hopewell-Loudon, totaling six stolen bases and two extra base knocks among eight total, led by Amor (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R), Jividen (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 SB, 2 BB), and Alivia Wauford (1-for-2, 2 BB, RBI). Amore picked up the win in the circle, striking out seven and allowing just three hits over six innings. Wauford, who recently returned from injury, made her season debut in the circle by striking out one in a 1-2-3 seventh.

Down a pair early, Gibsonburg received a squeeze bunt from Jividen and an RBI groundout from Brink to tie the game at two after three against Wynford, and the Golden Bears scored what turned out to be the winning run on a passed ball in the fourth. Wauford started and picked up a no-decision after striking out four over three. Amor relieved her, striking out six over the final four innings.

OAK HARBOR (7-2, 2-0 NBC) pushed its winning streak to six with a pair of 17-0, five-inning victories over Fostoria and Genoa, while producing a 12-6 win over Woodmore and 7-0 victory over Perkins in non-league play.

Morgan Lalonde struck out 12 while allowing just one walk in a no-hit performance over five frames against Fostoria. Her offense, meanwhile, totaled 18 hits, including three-hit performances from Maddie Lenke (3-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBIs), Lalonde (3-for-3, 3 R, RBI, BB, 2B), and Kaitlyn Meloche (3-for-4, 3 RBIs). Haylee Robinson added a pair of hits while tying Lenke and Meloche with a team-best three RBIs. Claire Blausey had a double and a triple, while Addison Laubacher and Tatum Baumgartner added one double apiece.

Trailing 2-1 through two and tied after three, the Rockets racked up 15 more hits on offense in a win over Woodmore. Lalonde (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 2B, 3B) and Laubacher (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBIs, 2B, 3B) paced the attack, while Karder Haas belted a key three-run home run to give the Rockets a 6-3 lead in the fourth. Baumgartner and Payne Lohman added one double apiece, while Blausey had another triple. Lalonde struck out 10 in a complete game win.

Lalonde struck out 10 more and allowed just three hits in another complete game win against Perkins. Baumgartner (2-for-4, 3 RBIs, 2 R, 2B) paced the offense, while Delaney Johnson (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 2B, BB), Robinson (2-for-4, RBI), and Lalonde (1-for-1, 3 RBIs, 2 R, 2B) had notable performances.

Oak Harbor’s offense stayed hot against Genoa, racking up 13 of its 15 runs over the first two innings en route to 15 knocks as a team. Six players recorded at least two hits, led by Haas (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs, SB). Baumgartner (2-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBIs, 2B, HR) continued to produce extra base hits, as well. Other top outings included Lalonde (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB), Robinson (2-for-3, 3 RBIs, 2 R, 2B), Laubacher (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 3B), and Lohman (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, R, 2B). Johnson added a stolen base and a sacrifice fly. Lalonde allowed seven hits and struck out 10 in another complete game win in the circle.

GENOA (3-4, 1-2 NBC) competed five times last week, earning wins over league foe Fostoria (23-2, 5 inn.) and Woodmore (9-8), while falling to Eastwood (7-0), Oak Harbor (17-0, 5 inn.), and Swanton (10-5).

In the week’s opener against Eastwood, Kody Teet (1-for-3) and Izzy West (1-for-3, 2B) produced the team’s lone two hits, while Izzy Britt and Rilee Popovich drew the two walks. Makayla Magrum struck out a pair in relief.

The Comets responded by producing 23 runs on 22 hits against Fostoria. Mya Colvin (5-for-5, 4 R, RBI, 3B) highlighted the offense, while Teet (3-for-5, 4 R, 3 RBIs, 2 2B) and Kylie Pennington (3-for-5, 3 RBIs, 2 R, 2B) each had three-hit attacks. West scored three runs and drove in a pair while producing a home run. Magrum and Bella LeGare added triples. Rachel Buehler earned the win in the circle with eight strikeouts over four innings. She allowed just two hits, one walk, and zero earned runs.

Colvin (2-for-3) and Teet (2-for-3, SB) had multi-hit outings against Oak Harbor, while Magrum, Pennington, and Alina Kegerize also had one hit apiece.

Despite a five-run rally in the sixth inning, the Comets fell short against Swanton. Popovich (2-for-3, R, BB) and Britt (2-for-2, R, BB) had multiple hits, while Pennington (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, R) drove in a pair. Colvin and West scored one run apiece. Mila McQueary recorded two outs in scoreless relief.

The middle innings proved to be fruitful for Genoa in the win over Woodmore as the Comets scored all of their runs in the third, fourth, and fifth combined. Colvin (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R, 3B) and McQueary (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, R) had multiple hits. Magrum added a double, while Popovich tripled, drove in a run, and scored a run. West stole the team’s lone base. Magrum pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save, while McQueary recorded the win after striking out a pair over the first 5.2 frames.

WOODMORE (1-8, 0-1 SBC) knocked off Port Clinton 19-5 in five innings, but suffered losses to Lakota (16-12), Oak Harbor (12-6), Swanton (20-10), and Genoa (9-8).

The slugfest against Lakota included five extra base hits among 14 total knocks. Aubrey Becerra (3-for-5, 4 RBIs, 2 R, 2B), Kelsey Kaylor (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, 2B), Liv Scavio (3-for-4, 3 RBIs, BB, 2B), and Alexys Becerra (2-for-4, R) had multi-hit performances. Elena Reif added a triple and a pair of runs, while Camille Strong went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, one walk, and a double.

Alexys Becerra homered against Oak Harbor, while Kaylor (2-for-4, R), Strong (2-for-3, 2 R, SB), Scavio (2-for-3, R, RBI, BB, SB), and Payton Whitcum (1-for-3, RBI, BB) also stood out offensively.

The Wildcats had five players tally multiple hits against Port Clinton. They included Strong (3-for-3, 5 RBIs, 3 R, BB, 3B, HR, SB), who fell a double shy of the cycle, Aubrey Becerra (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Whitcum (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 2B), Rebekah Wauford (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R), and Reif (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI). Kaylor also went 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs, a walk, and one stolen base, while Scavio was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs, two walks, a stolen base, and one triple. Izzy Helmke scored two runs and stole a base. Reif also doubled once, while Scavio struck out six to pick up the complete game victory in the circle.

The Swanton outing saw Strong (3-for-4, 2 R, 2B, 3B, SB) nearly hit for the cycle again, while Aubrey Becerra (2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, RBI, SB), Alexys Becerra (2-for-2, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB, SB), and Wauford (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) also stood out.

A three-run rally in the sixth inning wasn’t enough against Genoa. Helmke went 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Alexys Becerra (2-for-2, 2 RBIs, R, BB) and Scavio (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R, 3B) also stood out. Whitcum added a double, and Kaylor tripled. Strong went 1-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base, as well. Wauford pitched a clean inning in relief in the sixth.

CARDINAL STRITCH (0-2, 0-1 TAAC) saw its first action of the season, falling to league foe Toledo Christian 23-1, as well as Liberty Center 12-0.

Addison Gawle and Abby Shull combined for Stritch’s two hits against Toledo Christian. Gawle, Aryana Alonzo, and LaRya Carter followed with hits against Liberty Center, while Sophia Hamrick drew a walk.

WAITE (0-4, 0-2 CITY LEAGUE) was defeated in contests against McComb (20-0 in 5 inn.) and Lima Senior (13-1 in 5 inn. and 22-8 in 5 inn.).

Cliciney Onyango-Doria went 1-for-2 with a walk against McComb. She was the lone runner to reach base, and she did it twice. Destiny Garza struck out four over four innings.

The Indians offense was led by Sophie Kinsey (1-for-2) and Christa Hamilton (1-for-2) in the opener against Lima Senior. Waite tied the game at one in the fourth on a passed ball, but the Spartans scored 12 runs in the next half inning. Tashiana Moore drew the team’s lone walk. Garza struck out six more over 3.1 innings.

Waite’s offense had five hits and eight runs in the finale against Lima Senior, but it wasn’t enough. Garza (2-for-4, 2 R, SB, BB) led the attack, while SuRyah Quisno (1-for-1, R, RBI, 2 BB, SB), Onyango-Doria (1-for-4, SB), and Moore (1-for-2, R, RBI) also recorded hits. Rayne Dehring also added a pair of RBIs, one run, and one stolen base.

NORTHWOOD (0-6, 0-2 SBC) suffered five-inning losses to Swanton (30-3), McComb (23-8), SJCC (20-6), Lakota (26-1), and Rossford (22-6).

Camryn Haas (3-for-3, 2 R, 2B) led the Rangers offensively against Swanton, while Anabelle LaGrange (2) and Madison Huenefeld (1) combined for three RBIs. Averey Perlaky added one hit and one run.

Kaydence Miller (2-for-3, 3 RBIs, 2 SB, R), LaGrange (2-for-2, R, BB, 2 2B), and Huenefeld (2-for-3, R, RBI, BB) had multiple hits against McComb. Haas added one hit, one run, and one RBI, while Emma Kirkpatrick had one run, one hit, and one walk. Angel Bohner scored once.

Huenefeld went 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk from the leadoff spot against SJCC, while Haas (1-for-2, R, BB), LaGrange (1-for-3, R, RBI), and Amaya Dixon (1-for-2, 2 RBIs, BB) added hits. Destinee Husen drew a pair of walks.

Huenefeld (1-for-2, R, BB) and Haas (1-for-3) combined for Northwood’s two hits against Lakota.

The Rangers totaled five hits against Rossford, led by Alyssa McDaniel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Huenefeld (1-for-2, R, RBI, 2 BB, SB), LaGrange (1-for-3, RBI, BB), and Husen (1-for-3, R) recorded the other hits.
