This roundup includes games played Nov. 24-30. Woodmore and Waite are not included in this week’s roundup as they didn’t play any games.
Gibsonburg opened its season with a pair of tough four-point losses to Norwalk, 45-41, and Clyde, 48-44.
In the opener against Norwalk, Leah Hall produced a team-best 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, along with nine rebounds. Elly Evarts added 11 points, four steals, four blocks, three rebounds, and three assists. Emma Jividen (6) and Ava Dawson (4) combined for 10 points while adding three assists each.
Evarts poured in 31 points against Clyde, while adding seven rebounds, six steals, two assists, and two blocks. Hall added nine rebounds, and Dawson produced five points and five rebounds.
Northwood dropped its season opener against Otsego, 42-31. Averey Perlaky had a team-best 11 points, while Kadience Karmol had eight and Alyssa Boubon had six. Emily Reichow had four, and Camryn Haas rounded out the scoring with two.
Lake split a pair of games, knocking off Swanton 46-14 before falling to Oak Harbor 54-39.
Brooke Wiley poured in a game-high 18 points against Swanton, including 12 in the first half, to lead the Flyers. Paige Allen (8) and Aubrina Morales (7) added a combined 15 points.
The Oak Harbor game, which was the NBC opener, featured 17 more points from Wiley, as well as nine points from McKinly Johnston. Allen (6) and Morales (5) combined for 11.
Genoa dropped its season opener in heartbreaking fashion to Central Catholic, 51-50, in overtime. With just over four seconds left in regulation, Genoa’s Addi Moritz inbounded to her sister, Makenna Moritz, who dished it back to her for a game-tying 3-pointer from the left wing to send the game to overtime.
Despite another clutch, go-ahead 3-pointer late in overtime from Addi Moritz, Central Catholic converted a short jumper with one second remaining for the win. Addi Moritz led Genoa with 15 points, while Lucy Schlageter chipped in 13 points. Keira Combs and Kylie Pennington added seven each.
Eastwood opened its season with wins in two of their three contests. After a tough season-opening loss to Archbold, 52-50, the Eagles responded with a 65-21 win over Rossford and a 53-42 victory over Elmwood.
In the opener, Ava Kachmarik had a team-best 15 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Karissa Nelson added nine points and five rebounds, while Lauren Schuerman recorded seven points. Kenna Nelson had six points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Mack Miller had five rebounds along with two points.
The Eagles jumped out to a 24-8 lead through one quarter against Rossford en route to an easy win. Kachmarik recorded 18 points, including 14 in the first half, while Karissa Nelson had 17 points, including 13 in the second half. Kenna Nelson added 12 points. Miller (6), Gracyn Reiter (5), and Karly Wasserman (5) chipped in a combined 16.
Eastwood used a 17-9 advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away from Elmwood. Wasserman had a team-best 10 points, while Karissa Nelson and Kachmarik had nine each. Kachmarik added five rebounds and four assists. Kenna Nelson had seven points and seven rebounds. Miller had six points and five rebounds.
Oak Harbor opened the season 2-1 with wins over Sandusky Perkins (50-41) and Lake (54-39) before falling to defending state champion, Bellevue (71-47).
The opener against Perkins saw a balanced scoring effort, led by Karder Haas and Reghan Markley with nine points each. Kaitlyn Meloche added eight, Kendall Gaines had six, and Laney Schmidt had five.
After trailing 16-13 through one quarter, Oak Harbor took the lead at the half over Lake before taking control behind a 15-4 advantage in the third quarter. Haas poured in a game-high 18 points, and Brookelynn Tabbert added 13. Meloche (9) and Alayna Hall (6) combined for 15 points.
The Rockets then gave the defending Division IV state champs a game in the first half. Down 17-12 through one, Oak Harbor outscored Bellevue 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 32-28 lead at the half. However, the visitors exploded for a 22-6 performance in the third quarter to take control. Markley had a game-high 19 points, and Haas added 14. Tabbert dished out five assists, and Gaines distributed four.
Cardinal Stritch, after a tough loss to Danbury in its season opener where Morgan Kennedy (12) and Makayla Miltz (11) combined for 23 points, fell to SJCC 53-42 on Nov. 25.
In that game, Amaya Hill nearly registered a triple-double with 25 points, 17 rebounds and eight steals, and Miltz added 14 points, six steals, five rebounds, and three assists. Erin Carbe pulled down nine rebounds, and Alanah Black also had six boards.
Clay dropped a pair of games to Northview (57-19) and Bowling Green (49-37). Stats were not reported.
