Gibsonburg (6-2, 3-1 SBC) used a strong fourth quarter (21-10) to produce a win over Oak Harbor (53-42) in its lone game of the week. The Golden Bears were led by Reece Walby, who had 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Kayden Havens registered his second double-digit scoring effort of the season with 10 points, and he added five rebounds. Aiden Morant had nine points while matching Walby with a team-best three assists. Xander Zimmerman (8) and Hunter Wasserman (7) combined for 15 points, and Wasserman chipped in five boards. Luke Foster had six rebounds, which was the second most on the team behind Walby.
Woodmore (5-4, 3-0 SBC) lost a pair of non-league matchups in Otsego’s holiday classic to Otsego (72-49) and Woodward (60-45).
Despite ultimately getting 25 points from Carson Slates, Woodmore fell behind 11-1 to open the game against Otsego and trailed 33-17 at halftime, and the Wildcats weren’t able to trim its deficit below double digits the rest of the way.
Another slow start hurt the Wildcats against Woodward with a 30-18 deficit at the half. They battled, however, to pull within six early in the fourth, but Woodward reeled off five straight and 10 of the next 12 points to open up a 14-point lead with 3:10 left. Slates had a team-high 16 points, while Ryan Maynard added 14 points.
Lake (7-2, 2-2 NBC) knocked off Lakota (57-40) in a non-league matchup in its lone contest of the week. The Flyers were led by the duo of Carter Behlmer (19) and Preston Snyder (18), who combined for 37 points, while Xavier Scott added 11. Jack Sobczak (5) and Jace Ayers (4) totaled nine to round out the scoring. Behlmer and Snyder combined for 15 of Lake’s 25 points in the opening quarter as the Flyers opened up a 25-5 lead before taking a 38-14 lead at the half and ultimately cruising to the win.
Eastwood (5-3, 2-2 NBC) produced a victory over Elmwood (55-46) in its lone contest of the week behind a game-high 20 points from Brayden Luidhardt, who scored 11 of those in the first quarter to help his team open up a 21-13 lead. The game remained close through three before the Eagles outscored Elmwood 11-6 in the final frame to pull out the win. Luidhardt added six in that quarter alone. Cam Schumaker totaled 11 points to finish second in scoring, while Ben Buehler (9) and Max Chaffee (8) combined for 17.
Clay (7-1, 3-0 NLL) took down University School (76-60) in its lone game of the week. The Eagles used a 28-14 advantage in the second quarter to create some separation as Antwoine Mister poured in a game-high 26 points, including 15 in the second quarter. Aiden Berryman added 15 points, while Carson Vincent chipped in 12. Eight different players scored overall for Clay in the non-league matchup.
Oak Harbor (1-7, 1-3 NBC) dropped a pair of contests to Gibsonburg (53-42) and Huron (44-36) during the week. Zach Hallett made 8-of-13 from the charity stripe to produce a game-best 23 points against Gibsonburg, while Brayden Ayres added nine. Braxtin Witt led the Rockets in scoring against Huron with 10 points, while Hallett added nine and Ayres had seven. Oak Harbor recorded 21 of its 36 points from long distance, but the Rockets were undone by a 14-5 scoring advantage for Huron in the third quarter.
Cardinal Stritch (3-6, 2-1 TAAC) fell to Start (77-50) in its lone contest of the week despite a game-best 23 points from Dennis Clark, who did his best work late in an 11-point fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Start had control of the game through three, although Stritch got 10 points from Erick Graham and nine more from Rasean Gordon. Xavier Blackman added six more.
Genoa (7-0, 3-0 NBC) produced a pair of non-league wins over Tiffin Columbian (68-51) and Wayne Trace (53-51 OT) during the week. Walter Plantz poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Comets in the win over Tiffin Columbian, while the group of Ty Asman (13), Jax Magnone (12), and Myles Mollenhauer (11) also scored in double figures.
Plantz followed up with another big performance, not only by producing a game-high 19 points against Wayne Trace, but he grabbed an offensive rebound and delivered the game-winning layup as time expired in overtime. Ryan Routson, who finished second in scoring with 13, established a new career assist record for the program in the win, while the combination of Mollenhauer (9), Asman (7), and Magnone (5) combined for 21 points. Wayne Trace, which trailed 28-15 at the half, came back to tie it and had a chance to win in regulation, but an off-balance 3-point attempt on a sideline out of bounds play came up short.
Northwood (2-7, 1-3 SBC) did not compete during the week.
Waite (0-8, 0-3 City League) fell to Clyde (90-39) in its lone game of the week. Stats weren’t reported.
