Gibsonburg (5-2, 3-1 SBC) pushed its winning streak to four straight and five of its past six with a trio of wins last week, which included triumphs over Hopewell-Loudon (53-33), Northwood (83-33), and Cardinal Stritch (73-57).
Reece Walby (22) and Aiden Morant (14) combined for 36 points in the victory over Hopewell-Loudon, while Luke Foster added seven. Xander Zimmerman pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and swiped four steals, while Walby also contributed five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block in addition to his scoring output. Morant also had a solid all-around performance with five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block. Foster tied Zimmerman for the team-high in steals with four.
The Golden Bears got a balanced performance in the win over Northwood as Walby and Morant led the team with 16 points apiece, while Zimmerman (14) and Foster (13) totaled 27 combined. Aiden Senters, Kayden Havens, and Jesus Rodriguez had six apiece. As a team, Gibsonburg made 13-of-25 from long distance, led by four apiece from Morant and Zimmerman. On the glass, Rodriguez (9) and Walby (7) combined for 16 boards, and Walby even flirted with a quadruple double by adding 10 steals and nine assists — in just 20 minutes. Morant dished out six assists, while he and Grant Smith also had four steals.
Gibsonburg then used a 25-13 advantage in the fourth quarter to produce a non-league victory over Cardinal Stritch. Walby etched a career-best 31 points in the victory, while adding seven assists, two rebounds, and two steals. He went 11-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-5 from long distance. Hunter Wasserman added a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and one block, while Xander Zimmerman had 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Woodmore (5-2, 3-0 SBC) has now won five of its past six games after recording a pair of victories over three contests over the past two weeks. After falling to Ottawa Hills (54-34), the Wildcats defeated SJCC (79-24) and North Baltimore (73-59).
In the matchup against Ottawa Hills, Woodmore fell behind 22-10 early, and trailed 42-21 with 2:04 left in the third, before ultimately coming up short. Gavin Donley had 12 points to lead the Wildcats.
In the win over St. Joseph, the Wildcats reversed their start from earlier in the week by jumping out to an 18-3 lead in the first four minutes before taking a 30-7 lead after one. They even led 58-13 at the half. Carson Slates had a team-best 17 points, while Caden Hilt (12) and Donley (11) combined for 23.
Woodmore upended North Baltimore in its finale by using a strong 26-16 opening quarter. North Baltimore was able to trim its deficit to six in the third quarter, but Slates converted a four-point play late in the quarter, and then he followed that up with the first six points of the fourth to open up a 64-46 lead with 6:31 left. The Wildcats, which never trailed by fewer than double digits the rest of the way, were led by 31 from Slates, which included 20 in the second half. Donley added all 13 of his points in the first half, while Logan Campbell added 10 points.
Lake (6-2, 2-2 NBC) split four games over the two-week period, knocking off Ottawa Hills (67-48) and Northwood (63-29) while falling to Otsego (68-65 in OT) and Genoa (61-50).
Carter Behlmer drilled five from long distance en route to a game-high 22 points in his team’s win over Ottawa Hills. Jace Ayers (14), Xavier Scott (12), and Preston Snyder (11) each added double-figures, while Jack Sobczak (6) and Jaxson Rymers (2) added eight.
Ayers added a team-best 18 points against Otsego, which included 13 in the fourth quarter and overtime alone. Sobczak (14) and Scott (12) totaled 26, while Snyder and Behlmer added 11 each.
Scott tallied a team-best 18 points against Genoa, while Behlmer (14) and Snyder (10) combined for 24.
The Flyers then exploded for 33 consecutive points to break open its win over Northwood as Snyder poured in a game-high 19 points. Scott added 14, and Sobczak had 11. Behlmer added nine points.
Genoa (5-0, 3-0 NBC) picked up three more wins on its young campaign, defeating Wauseon (54-39), Oak Harbor (59-41), and Lake (61-50).
Ryan Routson led the Comets with 14 points in the victory over Wauseon, while Walter Plantz tacked on 13 and Myles Mollenhauer had 10. Jacob Woollard (8) and Ty Asman (7) added 15 combined. Genoa made six 3-pointers in the contest, including four from Routson.
In the win over Oak Harbor, Plantz had a game-best 24 points, which included an 8-of-9 performance from the foul line. Routson added 16, and Woollard had eight.
The Comets then picked up a hard-fought win on the road over Lake as Plantz had a game-high 21 points. Jax Magnone and Routson added 12 points apiece, while Woollard had six.
Eastwood (4-3, 2-2 NBC) knocked off Fostoria (88-62) on the road, while falling to Maumee (65-60) and Bellevue (65-55) during the two-week period.
The Eagles opened the stretch with Brayden Luidhardt pouring in a then career-high 29 points while adding six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks against Maumee. Cam Schumaker added 20 points along with eight rebounds, including four of the team’s seven offensive boards. Logan Miesmer finished third in scoring with seven.
Luidhardt then produced a career-best 33 points along with 10 rebounds, five steals, and two assists against Fostoria. He followed that up with a team-best 20 points along with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Bellevue.
Schumaker added 16 points against Fostoria, while the group of Drew Luidhardt, Ben Buehler, Logan Miesmer, and Max Chaffee had eight points apiece. Of them, Drew Luidhardt added seven assists and four steals, while Buehler dished out five assists.
Schumaker produced 11 points against Bellevue, while Drew Luidhardt and Miesmer added eight points each once again. Drew Luidhardt had a game-best nine assists along with four rebounds and two steals.
Clay (6-1, 3-0 NLL) kept rolling to start its season with three more wins, knocking off Springfield (58-32), Fremont Ross (58-41), and Rogers (60-49). It also pushed the team’s winning streak to four overall.
Antwoine Mister had a team-best 14 points against Springfield, while Quimari Buffaloe and Carson Vincent had 10 apiece. Aiden Berryman nearly joined them in double figures with nine as 10 different players scored.
Zee Usrey-Martin poured in 18 points to lead the Eagles over Fremont Ross. Mister added 12 more, including a pair of triples, while Berryman also had two from long distance on the way to eight points. Vincent and Grant Oberdick chipped in five apiece.
The Eagles then knocked off Rogers, earning a measure of revenge for a loss in last year’s Division III sectional championship.
Oak Harbor (1-5, 1-3 NBC) suffered a trio of losses over the past two weeks, including Genoa (59-41), Port Clinton (55-43), and Maumee (56-47).
Zach Hallett led the Rockets in scoring against Genoa with 10 points on five field goals. Tyler Stewart (6), Brayden Ayres (5), Matthew Hubans (5), and Carson Steinbrick (5) also scored at least five each.
Hallett poured in 22 points for Oak Harbor against Port Clinton, which included six points from long distance and four from the charity stripe. Braxtin Witt (8) and Steinbrick (7) added 15 combined.
The Rockets were outscored 38-25 in the second half against Maumee as Steinbrick and Hallett each had a game-best 17 points, while Stewart added seven. The trio combined for 41 of the team’s 47 points. Steinbrick also had a game-best five 3-pointers.
Cardinal Stritch (3-5, 2-1 TAAC) won two of its three contests during the two-week period, knocking off Emmanuel Christian (63-41) and Ottawa Hills (57-51) before falling to Gibsonburg (73-57).
Erick Graham delivered a game-high 24 points against Emmanuel Christian, while Dennis Clark (19) and Xavier Blackman (18) added 37 combined. Simon Ross and Rasean Gordon added six apiece.
Graham and Clark each had a team-best 13 points against Ottawa Hills, while Blackman and JoVon Burton had 12 apiece. Ross (5) and Gordon (2) rounded out the scoring.
Graham poured in a team-high 20 points against Gibsonburg, and Blackman added 19. Clark (8), Gordon (6), and Burton (4) combined for 18 to round out the scoring. Blackman registered 16 of his 19 points in a huge third quarter, while Graham had 10 in the fourth.
Northwood (2-7, 1-3 SBC) lost four games during the two-week period to Rossford (60-38), Lakota (80-56), Gibsonburg (83-33), and Lake (63-29). Stats weren’t reported.
