LAKE (4-2) captured wins over Toledo Christian (12-11) and Wauseon (8-7, 8 inn.), while falling to Liberty Center (4-3) in a week filled with close finishes.
Riley Lawniczak’s walk-off hit by pitch capped a three-run seventh-inning rally for the Flyers against Toledo Christian, while Grady Snoderly’s walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning against Wauseon resulted in the other victory.
In the opener against Toledo Christian, Jace Ayers (4-for-4, 3 R, 3 RBIs) and Gavin Kohlhofer (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs) combined for seven of the team’s 12 hits, which were all singles. Mason Csortos started for the Flyers, tossing the first 3.2 innings, while Charles Wallace finished it out. The two allowed four hits and four walks apiece, but they were the victims of 11 unearned runs.
Thomas Oehlers led Lake with a 2-for-4 performance against Toledo Christian, which included a run and a walk. Kohlhofer and Jack Sobczak each added a double. Sobczak started and took the no decision, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned), and two walks over five frames.
Snoderly starred in the win over Wauseon, producing a win in relief after allowing just two hits, one run, and zero walks with five strikeouts over three innings. He also went 3-for-3 with two runs, and two RBIs. Down one entering the home half of the seventh, the Flyers rallied to force extras when Lawniczak walked, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Csortos. Kohlhofer added a 2-for-4 performance with three stolen bases, two runs, and one walk. Ayers also walked three times, while Jaxson Rymers had a pair of RBIs out of the nine-hole.
GENOA (3-2) went undefeated over three games, knocking off Liberty Center (6-4), Bryan (6-4), and Clyde (12-4).
Brock Mathews earned the win against Liberty Center, allowing five hits, one walk, and two runs over five innings. Joel Gittus earned the perfect four-out save. The top of the lineup came through big for the Comets, as the trio of Jaxon Magnone (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 SB, RBI, BB), Elijah Welling (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI), and Evan Millner (2-for-2, 3 RBIs) combined for all six of the team’s hits.
Magnone earned a complete game victory against Bryan, allowing three hits, six walks, and four runs with five strikeouts over his seven frames. Welling (2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, RBI) and Millner (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) combined for all four of the team’s hits.
Madden Witt earned the win in relief against Bryan, allowing two hits, one walk, and one run (zero earned) with three strikeouts over three innings. Welling had another big game, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBIs, one double, and one run. Hunter Bickel batted 2-for-3 with two runs, one walk, and three stolen bases.
GIBSONBURG (4-3) had a busy week, beginning with a 9-7 win over North Baltimore before falling to St. Mary Central Catholic 3-0, Hopewell-Loudon 16-0, and Emmanuel Christian 8-7.
Evan Hoover earned the win in relief against North Baltimore. Reece Walby and Aiden Morant each picked up a pair of hits. The Golden Bears took the tough loss to SMCC despite 10 strikeouts from Chuy Rodriguez, who also led the team with a pair of hits offensively in the loss to Hopewell-Loudon.
Gibsonburg’s patience led to eight walks, while five players combined for five hits in the week’s finale against Emmanuel Christian, which scored three in the top of the seventh to claim the one-run win. Hoover went 1-for-2 with two runs, three walks, and an RBI, while Luke Foster was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, one run, and one walk. Walby added a pair of steals.
CARDINAL STRITCH (4-3) had a strong week, finishing 3-1 with a win over Toledo Christian (11-10) and a pair of victories over Rogers (24-2 in 6 inn., 10-0 in 5 inn.), along with a loss to Danbury (13-2 in 5 inn.).
The Cardinals scored six runs over the final three innings, including a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, to defeat Toledo Christian. John Weaver (3-for-5, R, RBI), Angelo Nino (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBIs), and Simon Ross (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB) combined for eight hits from the top three spots in the lineup. Brayden Minnick added a pair of RBIs and two walks. Nino, who had the walk-off RBI single, also picked up the win in relief.
Michael Rosales led Stritch offensively against Danbury, finishing 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Danbury scored all its runs in the first two frames, including nine in the first.
Stritch exploded for 17 runs in the top of the sixth to produce the 24-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Rogers. Ross (4-for-6, 2 R, 3 RBIs) and Rosales (4-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBIs, BB) had four-hit performances, while Nino (3-for-6, 3 R, 3 RBIs) and Cameron Martin (3-for-4, 3 R, RBI, BB) had three-hit attacks. Minnick also went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk. Ross earned the win on the mound, allowing three hits and zero walks with seven strikeouts over five innings.
Nino tossed four innings to earn the win in the finale against Rogers, allowing only two hits and two walks. He also paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included three stolen bases, two runs, two RBIs, and a double.
EASTWOOD (3-3-1) had a winning week, finishing 2-1-1 against the combination of Toledo Christian (W, 16-2), Elmwood (T, 8-8 in 8 inn.), and Patrick Henry (L, 6-5 | W 7-6 in 8 inn.).
Eastwood opened the week with a 16-run outburst against Toledo Christian that included many solid performances, highlighted by Andy Lautzenheiser, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBIs, two walks, and a home run. Drew Luidhardt (2-for-5, R, 2 RBIs, BB), Jack Sensenig (2-for-4, R, RBI), and Erich Hepler (2-for-4, 2 R, BB) each had multi-hit attacks. Jackson Schuerman, Landon Weemes, and Cam Schumaker joined Lautzenheiser with multi-RBI outings, as well. On the mound, Hepler struck out 10 over six frames to earn the win while allowing just four hits and three walks.
Eastwood battled Elmwood to an 8-8 tie after each team scored once in the seventh and eighth innings. Collin Ray’s RBI double with two outs at the bottom of the seventh tied the game at seven, and Brady Ramlow’s RBI single in the eighth tied it. Weemes finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while the trio of Schumaker (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs), Ramlow (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, BB), and Easton Speck (2-for-4, 2 R) tacked on multi-hit outings. Luidhardt drew three walks, as well. Lautzenheiser, Sensenig, and Schumaker combined for all the team’s pitching.
The Eagles split a doubleheader with Patrick Henry to conclude the week. Sensenig (2-for-2, 2 RBIs, BB) and Weemes (2-for-3) had multi-hit attacks in the first game, which saw Patrick Henry rally for three runs in the top of the sixth to earn the win.
A wild eighth inning was capped by a two-out, four-run rally from Eastwood in the finale. Ramlow’s single with two outs started the rally. Lautzenheiser drove in the first run with a single, Ray was hit by a pitch and Speck walked with the bases loaded, and Tyler Smolenski drew another bases-loaded walk to cap the comeback.
OAK HARBOR (3-3) had an undefeated week with victories over Edison (6-0) and Huron (15-5 in 6 inn.).
Nolan Bickelhaupt’s no-hitter highlighted the win over Edison as he allowed just three walks while striking out six. He also went 1-for-2 with two runs, two walks, and a double at the plate. Garret Perkins (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), Cooper Schultz (1-for-4, R, RBI), and Brennan Butzin (1-for-3, RBI) also had notable performances.
A 14-run sixth inning highlighted the come-from-behind win over Huron, which handed out 12 free passes to the Rockets. Oak Harbor got solid performances at the plate from Schultz (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB), Bickelhaupt (1-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBIs, 2 BB), Bryar Myerholtz (2 R, 3 BB), Butzin (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, R), Ethan Johnson (1-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB), and Gage Sandwisch (1-for-3, 2 R, SB, RBI). Schultz picked up the win in relief, allowing two hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks over three frames.
WOODMORE (4-5) split four games with wins over Danbury (16-5) and Port Clinton (15-4), while suffering losses against Lakota (3-2) and Tiffin Calvert (12-2).
Despite a complete game performance from Calvin Lipstraw, who allowed four hits, three runs, and three walks with nine strikeouts, the Wildcats lost to Lakota, which scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Michael Seeger had two walks and one run offensively, while the group of Collin Perkins, Lipstraw, Cole Potridge, and Blane Overmeyer combined for the team’s four hits.
The Wildcats jumped on Danbury early and often in the week’s second game. Lipstraw scored a game-best five runs while walking three times. Seeger added four runs on four walks. Potridge, who fell just a single shy of hitting for the cycle, batted 3-for-4 with seven RBIs and two walks, while Perkins and Gavin Donley each had two RBIs. Ryne Donley added three RBIs. Seeger picked up the win after tossing four shutout frames with just one hit allowed. Mason McGee tossed the final two innings.
Woodmore produced multi-hit performances from Perkins (2-for-4, R) and Keil Almroth (2-for-3) in the loss to Tiffin Calvert. Almroth started and took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over three innings.
The Wildcats capped the week in strong fashion against Port Clinton, getting big offensive performances from Lipstraw (2-for-3, 3 R, BB, 2 BB), Seeger (1-for-3, 4 R, 2 SB, 2 BB), Potridge (2 R, 2 BB, SB), Ryne Donley (1-for-2, 2 R, 3 RBIs, SB, BB), Griffin Thomas (1-for-4, R, 3 RBIs, BB), Overmeyer (1-for-3, RBI, BB), and Gavin Donley (3-for-4, 2 2B, R, 3 RBIs). Ryne Donley pitched the first four frames to earn the win. He struck out three while allowing six hits.
CLAY (3-4) dropped a pair of games against stiff competition, falling 3-2 to St. Francis and 10-7 to Anthony Wayne.
Bryce Besgrove produced a quality start on the mound against St. Francis, tossing the first five innings, while allowing two hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Brannan Vargas delivered a game-tying RBI double in the fourth, but the Knights scored the winning run in the sixth. Landon Echelberry, who pitched a clean seventh with two strikeouts, went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk offensively.
Tied at four through five innings, the Eagles came up on the short end of a combined nine-run sixth as Anthony Wayne pulled out the victory in the second game. Brayden Toneff (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) and Besgrove (2-for-5, 2 2B, R, RBI) led Clay at the plate. Echelberry tossed the first four frames, credited with a no decision after allowing six hits, four runs (three earned) and zero walks with five strikeouts. Offensively, the Eagles produced a three-run rally in the top half of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. It included an RBI double from Besgrove and an RBI single from Toneff. After the Generals rallied for six runs in the bottom half, Clay loaded the bases with two outs, but a fly out ended the game.
NORTHWOOD (0-5) suffered losses to St. Joseph Central Catholic (17-5), Lakota (11-0 in 5 inn.), and Bowsher (13-0 in 5 inn.).
Mason Hurley went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs out of the two-hole, while the trio of Evan Rodriguez, Jay Zaborski, and Jaxon Marlow each added one hit and one run out of the 7-9 spots in the lineup against SJCC. Gabe Hicks added an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base, while Laurell tallied one run, two walks, and a stolen base.
Hicks, Hurley, Jayden Zuraski, and Laurell combined for Northwood’s four hits against Lakota, while Laurell also drew the team’s lone walk.
Zaborski tossed a scoreless inning with a pair of strikeouts in relief against Bowsher, while Hicks (1-for-2, BB) and Laurell (1-for-3) paced the offensive attack. Rodriguez and Ryan Kovacs also drew one walk apiece.
WAITE (0-1) didn’t see any action during the week.
