CLAY 14, SOUTHVIEW 0

Clay produced its first win in the Derek Pennington era with a shutout victory at home over Southview.

Landon Echelberry went 9-of-16 for 135 yards through the air, while toting the ball 15 times for 67 yards. He found Carter Walendzak for a 31-yard touchdown, and Antonio Gianino returned a blocked punt 20 yards for the other score.

Bryce Besgrove led the rushing game for Clay with 89 yards on 17 carries, and Collin Greenawalt added 49 yards. Walendzak finished with three receptions for 49 yards. Max Morrison added four catches for 45 yards, while Jimmy Derr caught three balls for 45 yards.

WOODMORE 48, MONTPELIER 6

Woodmore’s Landon Rich had another big game, rushing 29 times for 295 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to their second straight victory to open the season.

Rich scored from 11, 25, 31 and 16 yards, while Cole Potridge added a three-yard touchdown run and Jesse Lopez ran 52 yards for a score. The team’s other touchdown came when Michael Seeger caught a 25-yard pass from Calvin Lipstraw in the first quarter.

The Wildcats rushed for 378 yards as a team, while Lipstraw went 7-of-10 through the air for 128 yards. Wesley Kayser had four receptions for 73 yards. Robert Seeger had two receptions for 29 yards and added an interception.

GIBSONBURG 49, ROGERS 13

Gibsonburg scored the game’s first 49 points en route to their second consecutive victory to open the season.

Grant Smith rushed for three touchdowns while producing 20 carries for 117 yards. Aiden Morant had two touchdowns — one rushing and one receiving — while finishing with 54 yards on the ground. Reece Walby scored from two yards out, and he also found Chuy Rodriguez for touchdown strikes of 8 and 28 yards.

Aiden Nims finished second for the Golden Bears in rushing with 78 yards on six carries. Smith had seven tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Rodriguez (4), Nims (3). and Aiden Senters (3) combined for 10 tackles.

OAK HARBOR 45, WOODWARD 14

Oak Harbor, coming off its overtime victory to open the season, had a less stressful performance in week two behind a strong rushing performance from Blake Nickel, who toted the rock for 112 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns.

The Rockets jumped out to a big lead, scoring all 45 points in the first half and not allowing any points until the fourth quarter. They produced a pair of safeties in the opening quarter, where Kason Marshall also had the first of his three touchdowns.

Oak Harbor’s scoring came from Nickel and Marshall’s combined six touchdowns and the team’s two safeties.

Marshall finished with seven carries for 96 yards as Oak Harbor racked up 227 yards on the ground while attempting just two passes, one of which was caught by Wyatt Augsburger for 10 yards.

GENOA 56, BOWSHER 7

Luke Clement rushed 18 times for 153 yards and four touchdowns to lead Genoa over Bowsher.

The Comets (1-1) rushed for 265 yards as a team, while Myles Mollenhauer went 7-of-14 for 102 yards and a touchdown pass to Jaxon Magnone, who had four catches for 70 yards. Logan Routson finished second on the team in receiving with one catch for 24 yards.

In addition to Clement, the Comets got rushing touchdowns from Gavin Grigson, Ryan Routson, and Isaiah Pickett, while Alex Materni (45) and Carter Miller (22) combined for 67 yards rushing. Defensively, Materni led the team with eight tackles, while Adam Knight and Hunter Bickel each added six.

NORTHWOOD 56, LAKE 42

Northwood won a high-scoring game in the latest installment of the Battle of Lemoyne Road. While Jason St. Claire produced a team-high 148 yards on nine carries for the Rangers (2-0), Skyler Rita and DeAndre Curry each had a pair of rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Tyler Osley had another. Rita totaled 93 yards on the ground on 16 carries.

Curry added two catches for 59 yards and a third touchdown. John Sawyer had three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown, while St. Claire had two catches for 29 yards. Valyric Goings also had an 8-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, Kevin O’Donnell led the team with 13 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Landan Kidd had eight tackles, including one sack. Nick Reinhart added three tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Lake (0-2) was led by Julian Rodriguez, who had 23 carries for 254 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. KJ Magers found Jaxson Rymers for a 75-yard touchdown and Gavin Kohlhofer for a 16-yard strike.

Rymers finished with a game-high 89 yards receiving, while Kohlhofer added 62.

LIBERTY CENTER 48, EASTWOOD 14

Eastwood faced a strong challenge from Liberty Center, ultimately falling 48-14 as the hosts jumped out to a 34-14 lead at the half.

Brayden Luidhardt found Edmund Opfer for a pair of touchdowns in the first half. The first came on a 28-yard strike in the first quarter, while the second was on a 61-yard pass in the second quarter. Opfer finished with six catches for 120 yards, while Luidhardt went 19-of-30 for 231 yards.

Landon Weemes caught six passes for 76 yards, while producing three tackles and an interception. Opfer led the team with 7.5 tackles, and Zach Mullholand had 5.5. Brayden Brown had a team-high 18 yards rushing for the Eagles.

ROSSFORD 33, WAITE 7

Jackson Drusback combined for four touchdowns to lead Rossford in a victory over Waite. The Indians (0-2) were led by Dayveon Holman, who had seven carries for 52 yards and four receptions for 24 yards. He returned a kickoff 85 yards for his team’s lone score.

FREMONT ST. JOE CC 47, STRITCH 14

Isaiah Ochmanek and Angelo Nino each rushed for a touchdown to lead Stritch (0-2). The Cardinals got a team-best 49 yards on the ground from Jordan Johnson, while Nino added 42.

Defensively, Kyle Martin had a team-high 7.5 tackles, and Nino added seven. Carsen Collins finished third on the team with 4.5, while Calvin Thomas and Juliano Carter each had 2.5 tackles.
