Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County invites the community to participate in the upcoming Biking 4 Builds: Local Loop, a 10-mile charity bike ride taking place on Sunday, Oct. 5 along the scenic North Coast Inland Trail. The ride will begin and end at Walter Ory Park in Elmore.
This event continues the momentum of Pastor Becky Bolander's incredible 3,500-mile cross-country journey, where she biked from the Pacific to the Atlantic to raise awareness and funds for affordable housing. Her goal is to raise $500,000 to help fund infrastructure for a new Habitat subdivision in Ottawa County — a necessary step as the rising cost of roads, drainage, water, sewer, and utility access continues to be a major barrier to affordable housing.
"Most people don't realize that before we can build a single home, we often face tens of thousands of dollars in infrastructure expenses — sewer, water, roads, permits, drainage," Valerie Winterfield, Community Engagement Director for Habitat, said. "Events like this help us tackle those costs and make homeownership possible for more local families."
Registration is $25 per rider, and includes a commemorative event t-shirt (guaranteed for those who register by Sept. 15) and a free ice cream cone at the finish line. Helmets are required. Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are welcome. Riders can choose the full 10-mile route or a family-friendly 5-mile option.
Participants are encouraged to gather pledges from friends and family. For every $50 raised, riders will earn a $10 Habitat ReStore Gift Card, up to $40 in total rewards.
Live entertainment will be provided by local favorite Mark Wilkins, adding a fun and festive atmosphere to the post-ride celebration in the park.
All proceeds support Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County's mission to build homes, communities, and hope — right here in our local neighborhoods.
