The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has declared a single-vehicle crash that occurred at the 10000 block of West Oak Harbor Southeast Rd. on Sept. 20 the result of a murder-suicide.
Both subjects – 24-year-old Alexis R. Pence and 23-year-old Malachi A. Moreno – had visible gunshot wounds to the head. A handgun and other evidence were recovered from inside the vehicle, and the investigation is still ongoing as of Sept. 24. Both victims were from Fremont.
The sheriff’s office originally received several 911 calls following the accident. When deputies arrived on scene, the two individuals were located unresponsive inside the vehicle.
One of them was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, where they were later pronounced dead.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mid-County EMS, Portage Fire, the Oak Harbor police department, the village of Oak Harbor, the Ottawa County coroner’s office, and Greer’s Towing.
