The Humane Society of Ottawa County’s board of directors is looking to increase its size, proposing an amendment that would increase its size to 15 individuals.
The organization’s current by-laws say the organization’s board should consist of no fewer than seven and no more than 10 individuals.
A vote on this proposed change will take place at the annual meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 7 following the regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 6 p.m. This meeting will be held at the Ida Rupp Library at 310 Madison Street in Port Clinton.
Any member of the Humane Society of Ottawa County is eligible to vote. Members include anyone who adopted a pet from the shelter in 2025, anyone who volunteers at the shelter on a regular basis, employees of the Humane Society of Ottawa County, and anyone who donated to the Humane Society of Ottawa County in 2025.
At this same meeting, a general election will be held to fill an open seat on the board of directors. Two incumbent board members are running for reelection: Mary Anne Koebel and Barb Muller. Nominations for board members will be accepted from the floor during this meeting.
The members of the board of directors are responsible for supervising the management of the shelter, making financial decisions of the shelter expenses, and assisting in fundraising events.
