Final assessment figures for a sanitary sewer project along Brown Road in Oregon will likely be ready for city council’s review in January, Paul Roman, director of public service, last week told members of council.

Council approved a change order last week totaling $19,747 for the project.

Roman said the order was needed because the contractor, Taylor Excavating, Inc., Delta, OH, encountered problems finding the end of the existing sanitary sewer. It was found about 15 feet from where it was expected, he said.

Also, the contractor found a local private storm sewer that it was unaware of in the alignment of the project and had to relocate it.

With the change order, the final project cost is expected to be $150,045.

The contractor has been installing the sewer line along the north side of Brown Road, east of Coy Road.

Individual sanitary sewer taps are being provided for properties within the petitioned project area.

Stop signs approved

In other business, council approved an ordinance amending the city’s traffic code to allow for replacing two yield signs on James Road with two stop signs.

The yield signs are on James Road at the intersection with Sugarbush Road.

A resident of James Road addressed city council and said the intersection is a hazard.

“”I pulled up where I have the right-of-way onto James and some guy almost took all the mail boxes out on the other said,” he said.”They don’t stop, they don’t hesitate, they don’t yield and it’s a completely blind corner. There is a 6-foot wooden fence within 28 feet of the rounding of the corner.”

He said children also play in the area and trees hamper visibility at the intersection.

Roman said personnel from the street department have inspected the site and his office and the police department recommend changing the yield signs to stop signs.
