The Northwood Community Center and Splash Pad will celebrate its one-year anniversary on June 3 at 10 a.m. with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring those who made the facility possible.

“As the Northwood Community Center marks its first anniversary, we are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support from our members, city leaders, and the entire community,” Pat McGaharan, the City of Northwood’s Recreation Director, said. “This celebration reflects on a successful first year. It looks ahead with excitement to continued growth, innovative programming, and lasting partnerships that will strengthen and connect the Northwood community for years to come.”

The launch of the state-of-the-art facility marked a significant step forward in the ongoing development of Northwood, particularly in connection with the future expansion of The Enclave.

Since its opening, the Northwood Community Center has hosted a variety of events designed to engage and bring the community together. Events include the lively Dueling Pianos fundraiser night, senior luncheons and game gatherings, pickleball tournaments and leagues, volleyball leagues, soccer clinics, and seasonal celebrations such as the annual tree lighting ceremony, haunted house, trick-or-treat event, and Easter egg hunt.

In addition to special events, the community center provides ongoing programs such as pickleball, yoga, fitness classes, basketball, rock climbing, and more. These offerings have quickly made the center a hub for health, wellness, and recreation in the area.

Membership growth

The Northwood Community Center has had a 42 percent increase in primary memberships from December to the end of April. Total membership has increased by 48 percent to a total of 1,047 members.

Community partnerships and philanthropy

The center actively collaborates with various local organizations to expand its outreach and provide valuable services. Partnering with programs such as WIC, Northwestern Ohio Rural Arts, Wood County Committee on Aging, Amazing Athletes of NW Ohio, Eagle Scouts BSA Troop 63, and the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, the community center supports a wide range of individuals, including women, children, and seniors.

Beyond fitness and recreational activities, the Northwood Community Center offers a modern, versatile venue for private events such as birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, weddings, and more. Equipped with professional meeting rooms, the facility also provides organizations with the perfect setting for public and private meetings, fostering a space for collaboration and community growth.
