Construction will commence March 31 to create a separated, multi-use path on Martin Williston Road, completing a missing link in the North Coast Inland Trail between Elmore and Genoa.
The multi-use path is part of a larger road improvement project set to widen and resurface Martin Williston Road. The park district is funding the multi-use path portion of the project and Clay Township received grant funding to support the road widening and resurfacing. The Ottawa County Engineers Office is coordinating the project.
Construction will be performed by Great Lakes Demolition Company. Kleinfelder engineered the multi-use path and worked closely with the Ottawa County Engineers Office to align plans with the roadway project. The improvements are slated for completion by early summer 2025.
Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be maintained throughout the construction process. Pedestrians utilizing the North Coast Inland Trail should use caution through construction areas. If temporary closures of the NCIT are required, signs will be posted and closure information will be available on the Park District website at www.ottawacountyparksoh.org.
“The designated multi-use path is important to get pedestrians off the roadway and traveling on the designated North Coast Inland Trail path into the Village of Genoa,” Board of Park Commissioners Chairperson Michael Shadoan said during a 2024 public meeting of the board.
The North Coast Inland Trail traverses through four counties and features nearly 100 miles of scenic multi-use trail through Lorain, Huron, Sandusky, and Ottawa counties.
With a mission to “connect, enhance and protect the natural, scenic, environmental and cultural resources of Ottawa County for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, the Park District of Ottawa County recognizes the importance of forming partnerships to provide maximum outdoor recreation access and safety to all county residents and visitors.
