Join the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in celebrating First Lady Lucy Hayes’ birthday with complimentary lemon cookies and lemonade, free craft activities and an outdoor scavenger hunt on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Lucy Hayes, the 19th first lady of the United States, would have turned 194 on Aug. 28. Each year, Hayes marks her birthday with events with free activities for the public to enjoy.
Craft activities include making paper flowers as a nod to Lucy’s love of flowers, and flower arranging and designing your own version of china using paper plates, crayons, stickers and other craft supplies. Lucy’s official White House china is very distinctive and featured flora and fauna of the United States.
There will also be a butterfly scavenger hunt on the grounds. Participants can come to the museum front desk to get the scavenger hunt sheet, find the butterfly signs on the grounds and return their completed scavenger hunt sheet to the front desk for a Hayes Presidential sticker, while supplies last.
The treats, scavenger hunt and craft activities will be available from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., while supplies last. Crafts will be self-directed, and written directions will be provided.
Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove on Buckland Avenue in Fremont. Call 419-332-2081 or visit rbhayes.org for more details.
