Members of the Flamingo Flock, a local U-14 AAU girls basketball team comprised of athletes from schools such as Northwood, Lake, Genoa, Oak Harbor, and Rossford, recently held a free throw shooting fundraiser that raised just over $2,300 for one of their players, Skylar Cook, and her family, who recently lost their home in a fire.
Andrew Dickey, coach of the team, said the event was very successful. Each player had a 90-minute time limit to get 100 shots in. Money was raised by collecting pledges for the number of free throws made and with flat donations. The best shooter of the event was Hazel Trainer, an eighth grader from Genoa who made 67 free throws.
Overall, the 12 players on the team raised $2,305 for the family.
"Words are not enough to convey how much we appreciate you all coming together to do this for our family,” Kellie Cook-Roth, mother of Skylar, said. “This has been a literal nightmare, but the love and support has been amazing and carried us through. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
