Hineline latest on Dewey Dare Wall of Champions

Posted

Weston Hineline, who will attend second grade at Eastwood Elementary in the fall, was honored as the newest person on the Dewey Dare Wall of Champions at the Pemberville Library recently.

Hineline earned the spot after reading 100 non-fiction books in all 10 classifications of the Dewey Decimal System, including at least two in each category. He finished with 101.

Hineline became a challenger because he likes reading, and he was also excited to earn the $25 Barnes and Noble gift card provided by Amplex Internet to each champion. His sister also earned a similar award a couple years ago, emphasizing a family that focuses on the library and reading.

Dewey Dare Challengers must read in all areas of non-fiction, but Hineline’s favorite books were about animals, which are in the 500s-Science.

Challengers, who also earn a certificate and a yard sign, can read non-fiction books from either the public or school library. They are provided with a title tracker to take home and a read-o-meter to post on the wall at the library – each to track their progress.

There is no set start or finish date for the challenge. Children can work at any pace.

Sign-ups for the Dewey Dare Challenge can happen at any of the three library locations in Luckey, Stony Ridge or Pemberville.
