GoFundMe to benefit teacher recovering from brain aneurysm

Posted

A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise funds for an Eastwood Elementary kindergarten teacher who is in the hospital after she suffered a brain aneurysm while at school.

According to the GoFundMe profile, Kelsay Hocanson, a mom and stepmom to five children, started the recent school day like any other, getting her kids up and ready and off to school. At around 11 a.m., as her kindergartners were at one of their specials, she sat down at her desk and began to feel odd.

“The left side of her body lost all feeling, and she suddenly had a headache. She described it as a sharp pain, the worst pain she had ever felt in her life. Her husband was called, he rushed to the school, picked her up and took her to the ER. After many challenging hours and shuffling between hospitals, the diagnosis revealed a brain bleed,” according to the GoFundMe, which was established by Amy Reid.

“Sitting in ER Kelsay smiled, joked and laughed even asked for her laptop so she could work on lessons for her little kindergartners.”

Doctors diagnosed a ruptured aneurysm. A five-surgeon team finished the surgery only to find out another surgeon had to be called in to add a drainage tube. “In the hours after, Kelsay was put on life support as the medical team worked to get her better. She is in ICU,” the GoFundMe profile continued.

As of Wednesday donations totaled nearly $13,000 to help the family meet expenses during Hocanson’s recovery.
