Eastwood’s robotics team lands spot at regional competition

Posted

Eastwood High School’s robotics team became one of five schools to advance to the regional championship following an award-winning performance on Nov. 15 at the Falcon BEST Robotics competition at Bowling Green State University.

Eastwood, Hamilton Southeastern, and Maumee Valley Country Day advanced to regionals via the BEST Award, while St. Francis de Sales and Pettisville advanced via Robotics Performance, which comes from the top teams ranked that didn’t already qualify.

The Falcon BEST Robotics Competition brings together talented and dedicated students from across the region. Alongside this year’s award-winning teams, participating schools included Wayne Trace, Macomb, Patrick Henry, Huron, Elmwood Middle School, Troop 322 (Findlay), and Penta Career Center.

Teams could compete in robotics only or take on additional components, such as marketing, engineering notebooks, and exhibit design. The BEST Award, the competition’s highest honor, recognizes teams that best embody the spirit of boosting engineering, science, and technology through excellence in teamwork, creativity, documentation, presentation, community involvement, and effective use of the engineering design process.

The final standings (in order) for the BEST Award were Maumee Valley, Hamilton Southeastern, Eastwood, and St. Ursula.

The Eagles also won first place in spirit and sportsmanship, second in exhibit and interview, and third in the robotics competition. They also captured the Founders Award, which was one of four Special Awards handed out at the competition.

Regionals will be held Dec. 6-7 in Wichita, Kan.
