The Eastwood Board of Education held its regular monthly board meeting on Feb. 17, where they recognized several students for achievements.

Connor Norton and Mallory Sandberg were selected as the students of the month for January and February, respectively.

Bri Patterson and Emily Payne were also honored, along with Paul Lautzenheiser, Drew Kachmarik, Austin Bonfiglio, Jesse Poiry and Anna Krukemyer, for their Real World Kindness Projects.

Kachmarik, Lautzenheiser,  Poiry and Bonfiglio worked on a project to  raise money for Christmas gift baskets for elementary children, and they passed those out personally. They raised around $750.

Patterson, Payne and Krukemyer volunteered at Otterbein, where they helped out at bingo and mingled with the residents, who really enjoyed the visit.

Eastwood’s Robotics Club was also discussed and honored for their recent achievements and the club’s growth, which now features 55 members from sixth through 12th grades.

In other news, teacher William Gent submitted his letter of resignation for retirement after approximately 42 years of service, which is effective Aug. 31 and was accepted.

“We wish him all the best in retirement,” board president Randy Rothenbuhler said.

The board also accepted a resignation for retirement from Jodi Zunk, the assistant principal at the middle school, effective July 31. Nick Schmeltz also resigned as head girls golf coach for the high school, and the board thanked him for previously filling that position on short notice.

In the buildings, grounds and transportation report, it was reported that a new bus is in service after meeting all requirements, and there is currently a salt shortage, which could temporarily limit salt usage in some areas.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is slated for Monday, March 17 at 6 p.m. in the Eastwood Administrative Office at 120 E. College Ave.
