Brad Wayne Hickman, known as “Pokey Papa,” passed away March 6, 2026, in Millbury, Ohio, at the age of 70. He was born on September 12, 1955, in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Brad dedicated over three decades to his career in construction. In 1991, he built the family home in Millbury, Ohio. For 18 years, Brad worked alongside his son at Simply Appealing Lawn Care.

He is survived by his devoted wife Ida; daughter Nickole Hickman; son Brad (Kelly) Hickman; and his grandchildren Kirstien, Scott, Brad, and Olivia. Brad also leaves behind his brothers Ron (Debra) Cruzan, Kerry Hickman, and Tom (Jodie) Hickman; sisters Sandy (Steve) Lubinski, Jackie Hickman, Pamela Hayes, Ellen Cruz (Dave), Laura (Paul) Hernandez, and Tammy Corral; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Audrey Hickman.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, he cheered for the Michigan Wolverines and the Cleveland Browns. NASCAR held a special place in his heart as well—he enjoyed weekly betting on drivers with his son and his coworker, Joe.

Brad enjoyed camping with his family at Sunny’s Campground in Wauseon. Golfing was another of Brad’s great loves; he spent countless hours at Old Pines Golf Club next door to Sunny’s Campground. His dedication to the sport was unmatched—he even set the course record by playing an astonishing 72 holes in a single day. His son and golf buddies always cherished their time on the course with him.

The family wishes to thank the Lake Township Police Department and the EMS crew for their compassionate care.

Per Brad’s wishes, cremation was handled privately by the family. Forever in our hearts. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
