Birchard Library looks to renew levy

Posted

The Birchard Public Library is seeking a one-mill, 10-year renewal levy.

The county auditor estimates that it will generate $1,161,360 annually. It is for the basic operation of the library, staffing, building, utilities, all materials, and things like that.

Birchard Library’s director, Beth Leibengood, said that it is the same millage levy they’ve had for the past 14 years. It would cost a homeowner $23 per year per $100,000 home valuation.

“The library supports all ages, anyone in the community,” Leibengood said. “If they're looking for technology help, if they're looking for a book or a movie, if they're looking for early childhood literacy education, that's what they need the library for.”
