Area teams compete in XC league championships

Genoa, Eastwood finish 2nd, 3rd in NBC girls race

In the Northern Buckeye Conference, Maumee took home the title in the girls race, while Genoa and Eastwood finished second and third, respectively. The Comets had a total clock time of 1:47:32.1, while the Eagles had a 1:53:02.7 time. Lake finished fifth with a 1:56:17.8 total time.

For Press-area teams, the Comets were led by Stella Rethman, who finished third at 20:09.5. Lindsey Brown and Brielle Ninke also finished sixth and 10th, respectively, to give them three top-10 finishers. Overall, Genoa had 14 runners in the top 50 individual finishers.

Raegan Russell’s 13th place finish in a time of 21:40.8 led Eastwood’s finishers, while Brynn Sheets and Melody Myers also finished among the top 20. The Eagles had eight finish among the top 30 runners.

 Julia Swartz produced a top-10 finish for Lake, registering the eighth-best time at 21:03.9. Riley Byington (11th) and Tabitha Balsmeyer (20th) also finished among the top 20. Stephanie Folley and McKinly Johnston also had top 50 finishes for the Flyers.

Although Oak Harbor didn’t register a team score due to not having enough runners, the Rockets saw freshman Elsie Kreager finish in a time of 23:14.1 to come in 23rd individually.

Maumee’s Teagan Kennedy won the race with a time of 17:56.94.

 

Genoa wins NBC boys title, Eastwood 2nd

Genoa claimed the NBC boys cross country title with a total clock time of 1:28:10.9, while Eastwood finished second with a time of 1:32:28.1. Lake’s time of 1:44:28.8 was good for fifth.

Braden Lesher (16:42.9) and Chase Cooper (16:53.8) gave the Comets the top two individual finishers, while Nate Wise (18:03.8), Haiden Pickett (18:06.3), and James Huston (18:23.9) also finished in the top 10. Sebastian Zellner (12th, 18:26.9) wasn’t far behind as all 15 Genoa runners finished among the top 54.

While Lesher and Cooper finished 1-2, Eastwood’s Ben Buehler checked in third at 17:23.6, while Austin Miller’s 18:13.3 was eighth. Cole Schimmoeller (18:31.1), Zach McClure (18:37.7), Oliver St. Louis (18:42.3), and Scott McKenzie (18:51.0) also finished among the top 20.

Lake was led by the trio of Ricky Fox III (19:32.6), Vinny Mass (20:44.9), and Maxwell Morse (21:14.2), who finished 27th, 36th, and 38th, respectively.

Oak Harbor’s Trace German competed individually, finishing 28th with a time of 19:34.9.

 

Clay girls, boys finish 5th in NLL Cardinal Division

The Clay girls cross country team’s total clock time of 1:57:54.4 was good for a fifth-place finish in the NLL Cardinal Division race, while the boys’ time of 1:34:33.5 also checked in fifth overall.

On the boys side, Clay had all seven of its runners finish in the top 40, led by Tanner Reindel (17:29.8), Brody Csizmar (18:39.9), and Zach Conley (19:11.8), who finished 13th, 22nd, and 29th, respectively. Nick Nonekowski, Jacob Stine, Jackson Ketcham, and Brecken Hower rounded out the lineup.

On the girls side, Clay also had seven top 40 finishers. Jenna Swartz (22:04.0) led the team with a 21st-place finish, while Audrey Miller (22:55.5) was 25th. Makena Brinkman, Lillian Cordell, Brynlee Rogers, Ella Adams, and Addison Stine also finished among the top 40.

 

Woodmore girls claim SBC title, just ahead of Northwood and Gibsonburg

Press-area schools represented in strong fashion in the SBC girls cross country championship with Woodmore (23:05 average), Northwood (23:26 average), and Gibsonburg (23:29 average) finishing 1-2-3.

Individually, Gibsonburg’s Jorja Flores ran a time of 20:31.81 to finish second and lead area runners, while Northwood’s Emily Reichow (21:31.32) and Gibsonburg’s Macey Kohler (21:35.86) finished fourth and fifth. Also in the top 10 locally were Woodmore’s Peyton Damschroder (6th, 21:39.08), Woodmore’s Wren Lewis (9th, 22:12.52), and Northwood’s Miriam Fowler (10th, 22:24.48). Flores and Damschroder are both freshman, while another rookie, Northwood’s Megan Stone, came in 11th at 22:28.85. Other top 20 finishers from the area include: Woodmore’s Addison Lowry (15th, 23:12.54), Gibsonburg’s Lillian Kendel (16th, 23:27.84), and Woodmore’s Morgan Farber (20th, 23:51.37).

 

Gibsonburg, Woodmore compete in SBC boys race

Gibsonburg’s 18:57 average, and Woodmore’s 19:22 average produced sixth- and seventh-place finishes for their respective boys cross country teams in the Sandusky Bay Conference’s River Division championship.

The Golden Bears were led by Tyler Hill, who finished 11th individually at 17:45.42, while three of his teammates also finished in the top 35. They included Zander Shreffler (19:05.32), Gabriel McCrory (19:11.44), and Bryson Marinoff (19:12.84), who finished 27th, 33rd, and 34th, respectively.

Meanwhile, Woodmore’s Myles Byrd finished eighth with a time of 17:37.48 to finish as the Press-area’s top runner in the race. Marcus Schroder (41st, 19:19.82) and Quincy Millerschone (44th, 19:25.93) also finished among the top 50.

Northwood’s Mitchel Fowler finished 50th in a time of 19:43.67, while Alexander Mannon (26:42.91) and Lucas Clark (36:32.13) finished 83rd and 88th, respectively. Those three competed individually only.

 

Waite boys, girls finish third in City League

The Waite boys cross country team averaged a 21:15 finish to check in third in the Toledo City League championship. Angel Rodriguez (8th, 19:02.80), Bobby Moton (11th, 19:54.60), and Joelle Turner (16th, 21:16.00) finished among the top 20 individuals. Noe Garza, Sebastian Lopez, and Adam Aranda also finished among the top 35.

The Waite girls cross country team’s average of 30:30 was also good for third place. Mercedes Garcia produced a fifth-place finish individually with a time of 25:10.60, while Jacqueline Martinez-Veladiz came in 11th at 27:25.90. Rounding out the lineup were Vanessa Cortez, Analicia Lewandowski, and Benessa Martinez, who all finished among the top 25.
