Genoa man retires after 55 years with company

Cornell, of Genoa, retired last week after 55 years at Materion Brush Inc. (formerly Brush Wellman Inc.), ending a career that spanned 11 U.S. presidents.

Grateful for new gavel
When Melanie Bowen, who chairs the Lake Township Board of Trustees, banged the gavel to start the trustees’ June 21 meeting to order, she did so with a gavel made by Dale Klavinger, a township resident and woodworking craftsman.

Klavinger also made a display holder for the shovel used for a groundbreaking ceremony for the township’s administration building. The shovel is displayed on a wall in the building’s entrance.

The trustees thanked Klavinger for his donation.

The old gavel was one of many items lost in the June 2010 tornado that destroyed the building.
