Wayne Otto Haar

Wayne Otto Haar, 90, of Fowler, Colorado went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2022, He was the devoted husband of Mary Lee (Hicks) Haar for 41 years before she passed in 1996. 

Wayne is survived by his sister Marilyn Ferrer of Oak Harbor, OH, 3 Sons; Michael (Kimberly) Haar, Brent (Amy) Haar and Gary Haar, 2 Daughters; Sharon (Eddie) Garnett and Barbara (Mike) Crane, 14 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; Otto and Erma Haar, wife; Mary Haar; sister; Maurine Opfer; and grandson; Zachariah Haar.

Wayne was born to Otto and Erma Haar in Clay Center, Ohio on November 22, 1931. He was a 1950 graduate of Genoa High School in Genoa, Ohio. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in the Korean War. At the end of the Korean War Wayne received an honorable discharge and had attained the rank of Corporal. During his service Wayne received the following medals and awards; Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Wayne continued to serve in the U.S. Army reserves until 1959.

In 1955, Wayne married Mary Lee Hicks, and went to work at the Erie Ordinance Depot as a Security Guard. In 1964, Wayne and his family moved to Fowler, Colorado after being transferred to the Pueblo Army Depot where he continued working as a Security Guard until his retirement in 1993 after 40 years of service.

The celebration of Wayne Haar’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler, CO on Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 10:00 am with graveside services to follow immediately after at the Fowler Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 from 5-7pm, at the Bellwood  Ford Ustick Funeral Home located at 305 N. 8th St., Rocky Ford, CO 81067 (719) 254-3434
