Toledo Zoo celebrating seniors in September and October

        The Toledo Zoo celebrating Senior Discovery Days in September and October.
        In addition to free admission every Wednesday, seniors 60 and better can enjoy the following weekday perks (Monday-Friday).
        In addition, Monday through Friday,
        • Free parking in the Anthony Wayne Trail parking lot.
        • Free small coffee and mini-muffin at Northern Ice concession stand (10 a.m.-2 p.m.).
        • A 15% discount on merchandise in Zoo gift shops.
        • A 10% discount on memberships.
        • $1 off either individual or family baskets at the giraffe feed deck.
        In addition, animal demonstrations will be presented every Wednesday. The schedule includes:
        • 10:15 a.m. – Polar bear enrichment, Arctic Encounter.
        • 11:30 a.m. – Seal training demo, Arctic Encounter.
        • 1:30 p.m. – Meercat enrichment, Tembo Trail.
        • 2 p.m. – Gorilla enrichment, Great Apes.
        • 2:30 p.m. – Elephant enrichment, Tembo Trail.
        Animal meet-and-greets will take place 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the ProMedica Museum of Natural History.
        Other Senior Discovery Day highlights include:
        • Sept. 22: Seniors can win “ZOO-venirs” as the Zoo presents bingo with a twist. Games will be held in the Malawi Event Center, 10:30 a.m.-noon. (Limited capacity, first come, first served.)
        • Sept. 29: Enjoy the delightful melodies of Sweet Adelines Pride of Toledo International as they serenade visitors at noon in the ProMedica Museum’s Great Hall, and then stroll Zoo grounds.
        • Oct. 6: Check out the Big Band sounds of Jeff McDonald’s Swingmania Orchestra from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Malawi Event Center.
        • Oct. 13: Enjoy a guided tour of the Zoo’s WPA Reptile House. Learn about the history of the building while getting a close-up view of the Zoo’s reptile collection, including Baru, the largest Saltwater crocodile in North America. Meet in the Reptile House at 11 a.m.
        • Oct. 20: Explore the mysteries beneath the water in the renovated WPA-era Aquarium during a keeper talk and question-and-answer session with the Aquarium staff. Two options available 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Meet in the Aquarium.
        • Oct. 27: Another chance to win “ZOO-venirs” at bingo in the Malawi Event Center from 10:30 a.m.-noon. (Limited capacity, first come, first served.)
        Note: Caregivers who are directly responsible for assisting seniors during Senior Discovery Days are eligible for free Zoo admission. Pre-register with the Zoo’s Visitor Services Department by calling 419-389-6561 before visiting. This applies only to professional caregivers; regular admission rates apply for volunteers and relatives of visiting seniors.
