Schiets honored by foundation
Bowling Green State University redshirt freshman linebacker Justin Schiets will be awarded the Bob Eberly Distinguished Service Scholarship by the Toledo/Wistert chapter of the National Football Foundation.
The award, named for Toledo/Wistert chapter executive director Bob Eberly, recognizes an individual that has made contributions to football, local athletics, and the promotion of the ideals of the chapter.
Schiets, a 5-foot-11, 255 pound linebacker from Woodville who played for Central Catholic, will be presented with a $2,500 scholarship at the 58th annual NFF Scholar Athlete Banquet. The event will be held at the SeaGate Convention Center in Toledo on Monday, March 16. Ohio State University head football coach Ryan Day will be the keynote speaker.
The National Football Foundation-Toledo/Wistert chapter represents amateur football players from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The Distinguished Service Scholarship is one of two postgraduate awards being presented at the banquet. A total of 42 high school scholar-athletes will also be recognized.
The Toledo/Wistert chapter has awarded over $325,000 worth of scholarships since its founding in 1962.
