Robert W. Spurgeon

Robert W. Spurgeon, 92, of Millbury, Ohio, and formerly of Genoa, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 31, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  Bob was born in Genoa, Ohio December 2, 1931, to Howard and Mabel (Kindred) Spurgeon. He was a 1949 graduate of Genoa High School and 1953 graduate of Ohio University. Mr. Spurgeon was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War, serving as a 1st Lieutenant in Adak, Alaska. On February 24, 1957, he married Norma Brokate and she preceded him in death November 9, 1991. He later married Pat (Steveson) Glauser June 9, 1993 and she preceded him in death November 9, 2017. 

For 41 years, Bob worked alongside his brother Jerry at the family business, Spurgeon Chevrolet in Genoa, Ohio, retiring in 1996. His memberships included: St John’s United Church of Christ, Genoa American Legion Post #324, and Genoa Masonic Lodge # 483 F &AM.  

Bob is survived by his children, Bonnie Spurgeon, Jim (Hope) Spurgeon, Terry (Dan) Dippman, Tracy (Mike) Parker; grandchildren, Jessica Spurgeon, Christie (Shawn) Henebry, Dr. Elizabeth (Nathan Jones) Spurgeon, Desiree (Aaron) Martin, Kristen (Daryl) Keller, Jacob (Dominique) Dippman, Travis Fields, Sara (Mark) Parker-Sitton, Jodi Butcher; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jerry (Donna) Spurgeon.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Norma & Pat; and brother, Donald Spurgeon. 

The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 2:00 pm until time of Masonic Lodge service at 6:30 pm. Additional visitation Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am in St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa.  Interment: Clay Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in lieu of flowers to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
