To apply, clients are required to schedule an appointment with GLCAP by calling 567-432-5046 or online at glcap.org/summercooling.
Clients need to bring the following documents to their appointment:

• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members.
• Proof of disability (if applicable).
• Physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health (if there isn’t a household member over the age of 60).
Eligible residents can receive up to $500 if they are a customer of a regulated utility or $800 if they are a customer of unregulated utilities such as electric cooperatives and municipal utilities. The assistance can be applied to their utility bill, used to purchase an air conditioning unit or fan; or used to pay for central air conditioning repairs.
Ohioans must have a gross income at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines to qualify for assistance. For a household of two, the annual income must be at or below $34,510.

AARP lauds DeWine for older Ohioans in state budget
In response to Gov. Mike DeWine signing the state budget, Holly Holtzen, AARP Ohio state director, released the following statement:
“AARP applauds Gov. Mike DeWine for his leadership in signing a state budget that supports Ohioans 50-plus. We know that most Ohioans want to remain in their own homes and communities as long as possible, but when nursing home care is the best option, they deserve a long-term care system with quality choices. This budget contains meaningful measures directed at improving the quality and consumer experience in Ohio’s nursing homes. AARP has consistently called for more accountability in nursing homes, to ensure that any increased public funds are directed towards improving the safety and security of Ohio’s most vulnerable.
“AARP Ohio also recognizes the legislators who included a number of issues that will benefit Ohioans and their caregivers, and we look forward to working with the Statehouse to advance policies that will help Ohioans of all ages thrive in their state.”
