Notices have been sent to residents and businesses in the Village of Pemberville alerting them there will be a complete shutdown of electrical power in the village on Monday Dec. 16.
The power outage will be in effect between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Mayor Carol Bailey said the outage is due to a newly restored electric substation on college Avenue coming on line.
She said any user who pays a village utility bill will be affected by the shut down.
“Since the village buys our electricity from FirstEnergy (we distribute) we are at their mercy regarding the timing of this shut-off,” the notices say. “It is asked that you prepare for this outage in advance by taking basic preventative measures, such as charging your phones, making arrangements if you have medical needs that require electricity, or refraining from doing anything that an interruption of power could ruin.
“If you have telephone on VOIC, please know that you will not have phone service (cell phones should be fine). The bank will not be able to process any transactions, and the stores and restaurants will most likely not be open for business.”
Mayor Bailey said the village has been waiting for the powering up of the substation for several months.
“While we would have preferred that it was done months ago when warmer, we are glad to be able to complete this project,” she said.
FirstEnergy transmission lines will supply the substation with power once it is re-energized on Dec. 16.
The village is a member of AMP Ohio, a non-profit organization that provides electrical power for its members.
