Pavilion to be named for rec coach
The City of Oregon is remembering a man for his devotion to youth athletics.
The Tom Roberts Pavilion will be dedicated June 18 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. The pavilion is located at the Oregon Coontz Recreation Complex, 5330 Seaman Rd.
Roberts coached football, baseball, and basketball for 18 years for the Oregon Recreation Department. He passed away in November 2012.
“Tom truly loved the kids and inspired a lifetime of friendships and memories for many,” a press release from the city says. “The City of Oregon and the Recreation Department would like the community to remember a dear friend who touched many hearts while making new memories with those who are dear to us.”
He owned Roberts Party Store in Oregon for 10 years.
Oregon City Council approved funding for a new bathroom facility and concession stand in the 2023 capital improvement budget. Construction started in March 2023.
The open pavilion offers the public a place to eat their food, talk with friends, family, and teammates and watch a game being played on Diamond 2, said Tim Borton, commissioner of parks and recreation.
