Oregon-Jerusalem, E. Toledo historical societies to collaborate
Trustees of the Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society, along with East Toledo Historical Society (ETHS) Trustees, announced a collaboration and integration of East Toledo historical records, documents, pictures, artifacts and displays into one accessible museum at Brandville School Museum Complex, 1133 Grasser St., Oregon, which is open to the public. Integration will begin later this fall.
The announcement was made at the OJHS annual meeting, held Aug. 13.
Last year, Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society acquired buildings and property at the former First St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, which now allows for an expanded museum. “We are honored and excited that OJHS will now house all history relative to Oregon Township, which had its beginnings in the area that became East Toledo,” said Michelle Quilter, OJHS president.
According to Larry Michaels, a longtime local historian and a trustee for the East Toledo Historical Society, “It makes good sense that East Toledo, Oregon and Jerusalem Township all partner together to bring history to life for the east-of-the-river community. We are happy that East Toledo history will be preserved, treasured and on display at the Brandville School Museum Complex. It really is shared history for both OJHS and ETHS.”
In other business, four new trustees were elected to fill three-year terms for OJHS. They are Rob Gearhart, Angie Greszler, Jason Brauer and, representing ETHS, will be Ken Waite. The historical society also kicked off its “Raisin’ the Roof” fundraiser which will help put a new roof on the OJHS Learning and Community Center.
