Northwood Local Schools is looking to promote awareness and gather contributions for Northwood High School’s Opportunity Scholarship, a “heartfelt initiative” created by alumni from the 1996 class that supports the next generation of Rangers.

The scholarship, which aims to empower graduating seniors from Northwood by providing them with financial support to pursue their dreams in college, vocational training or other educational opportunities, has already launched six Northwood graduates into postsecondary education training with more than $6,500 in scholarships.

The scholarship reflects the dedication of Northwood alumni who believe in giving back to the school that shaped them. The goal is to create a lasting impact by helping talented students overcome financial barriers and achieve their potential.

Going forward, the scholarship will provide up to $7,000 for college-bound students over four years and up to $1,000 for students entering skilled trades to cover the upfront costs of tools and equipment.

“Scholarships and donor support are more than just financial aid - they are investments in our students' futures, opening doors to opportunities that might otherwise remain closed,” Northwood superintendent Jason Kozina said. “When alumni give back, they not only provide essential support but also serve as living proof of what is possible. Every contribution helps shape the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow. Northwood is fortunate to have the support of our alumni and our community.”

Originally created and supported by one family, the family’s current goal is to grow the scholarship to multiple college-bound and skilled trade students each year.

To do that, they need support and are inviting alumni, local businesses and the broader community to join them in growing the fund.

A press release detailing the scholarship fund said: “Every contribution, big or small, helps us reach more students and inspires a culture of giving, Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our seniors and continue the legacy of excellence at Northwood High.”

Those interested in donating can send a check payable to Northwood Local Schools, 700 Lemoyne Road, Northwood, OH 43619 to treasurer Angel Adamski. Or you can contact Adamski for alternate payment options by calling 419-691-3888 or emailing aadamski@northwoodschools.org.
