Fremont patrol
holds open house
Ohio State Highway Patrol recently held an open house to formally introduce its Fremont Post, which opened in April.
The event allowed community members to meet Patrol personnel and see the new facility.
“This open house provides an opportunity for us to connect with the communities we serve,” said Col. Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent. “The new facility offers even greater opportunities for our sworn officers and professional staff to provide the citizens of Ohio the ‘Service with a Purpose’ that is at the heart of everything we do.”
The OSHP first established a post in Fremont on Oct. 5, 1941, but closed at the onset of World War II due to personnel shortages. On March 1, 1952, the Fremont Post reopened, occupying two different locations on West State Street in Fremont until a post was built on the grounds of its present location, opening its doors on Oct. 3, 1960. On May 16, 2023, the Fremont Post moved to a temporary location on Pinnacle Drive in Fremont so the 63-year-old post could be demolished and construction of the new facility could begin.
As part of the event, troopers were on hand to answer questions about operations and equipment and provide tours of the facility to those in attendance. A recruiter was on site to assist with the application process for those interested in a career with the Patrol.
