Designer Purse
Fundraiser set
The East Toledo Senior Center will hold a Designer Purse Fundraiser Thursday, July 11, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Navarre Park Shelterhouse, 1001 White St.
The cost is $35 per person and includes food, two drink tickets (sangria, beer, soda and/or water) and 11 games, including a cover all, with the chance to win designer purses.

Safe Harbor Day
Ottawa County Municipal Court will conduct Safe Harbor Day Thursday, June 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The “safe harbor” will give individuals with outstanding warrants a chance to address their legal issues without immediately going to jail.
The initial Safe Harbor Day was a success, with numerous warrants lifted. This only applies to warrants issued by the Ottawa County Municipal Court.
Some examples of individuals who can participate include:
• Individuals who failed to attend a court hearing will be seen by the judge or magistrate with the opportunity to enter a plea or have their hearing rescheduled.
• Individuals who failed to complete court-ordered evaluations or programs will be allowed to re-engage in treatment with the appropriate monitoring by the court’s Probation Department.
• Individuals who failed to perform community service will be given the opportunity to reschedule the completion date.
• Individuals who did not report to serve a jail sentence will be issued a new date to report.
Upon reporting to the court on Safe Harbor Day, the individual’s warrant will be lifted and recalled from law enforcement.
‘Find Your Family Tree’
Area residents looking to start researching their family history are invited to a program being offered Tuesday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at the Walbridge Library, 108 N. Main St.

Magruder blood drive
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in the Magruder Hospital Conference Center Friday, June 7, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Conference Center is located at 615 Fulton St., Port Clinton.

ODOT grant awarded
Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jack Marchbanks have announced more than a dozen new transportation projects that aim to support job growth and retention.
Nearly $5 million will be invested in 14 projects as part of ODOT’'s Transportation Improvement District program.
In Wood County, improvements to Nims Road and State Rt. 25 are planned, including reconstruction, turn lanes, and signals to support a manufacturing company that is investing $550 million in the site. About 450 jobs are expected to be created.
The ODOT grant for the improvement project is $500,000.
"As Ohio's economy continues to grow, our transportation system must keep pace. These projects will help create and retain jobs by ensuring that businesses can safely and efficiently carry out their work and transport products," said Gov. DeWine.
Other projects receiving grants are in Allen, Seneca, Mahoning, Portage, Summit, Trumbull, Fairfield, Franklin, Pickaway, Montgomery, Butler, and Monroe counties.
Park closing for
paving project
Work is scheduled to start June 3 and conclude June 6 on the repaving of most of the park drive and parking areas at William Henry Harrison Park, Bierley Avenue, Pemberville.
The work will involve pavement milling and repaving. While the work is in progress, the park will be closed to all visitors. Park gates will be open for the contractor and signs regarding the closure will be posted.
If weather affects the project, updates will be provided.

Fatal crash in
Madison Twp.
The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on County Road 32 just south of County Road 85 in Madison Township.
On May 23 at approximately 5:42 a.m. a Chevrolet Impala, driven by Adam Madaras, 37, of Helena, was traveling northbound on County Road 32 near County Road 85. Madaras struck a horse that was in the roadway. After striking the horse, Madaras traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Madaras was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was transported by Life Flight to Toledo Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Appliance, tire
collection set
Registration for the appliance and tire collection event sponsored by the Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District will remain open until June 12.
The collection is open to residents of the three counties, including residents of Bellevue and Fostoria.
Residents participating in the appliance collection may drop off their household appliances, including, but not limited to microwave ovens, washers, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, freezers as well as most household items primarily made of steel. Televisions, computers, plastic fans, and vacuum cleaners will not be accepted.
There is no charge for residents participating in the appliance collection.
However, there are fees for the residential tire collection.
For standard car and small truck tires, there will be a charge of $1 per tire and $3 for racing tires. Tires will be accepted on or off the rim at the same cost.

There will be locations in all three counties for residents to participate in the collections.
In the fall, there will be household hazardous waste collection with registration starting Sept. 1.
Items from businesses and institutions are not accepted at the OSS special collections.
Holiday crashes
drop from 2023
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 14 crashes resulting in 17 deaths on Ohio's roadways during the 2024 Memorial Day weekend, according to provisional statistics. This is a decrease from last year, when 26 individuals were killed. The four-day reporting period began May 24 and ran through
May 27.
During the reporting period, state troopers made 19,104 traffic enforcement contacts, including 361 impaired driving arrests, 61 drug arrests, 2,662 safety belt citations and 1,090 distracted driving citations.
In addition, the patrol made 9,779 non-enforcement contacts including 1,950 motorist assists.
Waste district
accepting grant
applications
The Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District’s Competitive Funding Grant Program is accepting applications for the second round of funding for 2024.
The grant program was created to provide funding to local governments, educational institutions and non-profit organizations for solid waste programs. The district cannot, by law, fund any privately owned business.
For 2024, the total budgeted amount is $100,000 for the CFG, broken into two time frames, at $50,000 each round, with a maximum of $10,000 allowed per grant application.
Applicants are required to include a minimum of 25 percent match.
The period for submitting grant applications for the second round of funding opened June 1 and closes on June 30.
