Ned E. Ammons
Ned E. Ammons of Genoa, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 at Genoa Retirement Village at the age of 100. Ned was born March 1, 1923 in Findlay, Ohio to Howard Ammons, Jr. and Hazel (Wilch) Ammons. He was the 3rd child of 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
Ned was proud to serve in the Army during WWII alongside three of his brothers. He married Ruth Mygrant on March 26, 1944 while home on a furlough during the war. Together they raised 3 children. On March 26th of this year, they celebrated 79 years of marriage.
After the war, he briefly served in the Civilian Conservation Corps then trained at the Toledo Barber College. He first worked as a barber in McComb, Ohio then at the Woodville Road Barbershop, eventually becoming the owner.
Ned was very involved in several community service organization in N.W. Ohio, including the Ottawa County Republican Party, the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG), the Ohio Turnpike Commission, the Mid-Am Bank Advisory Board and the Genoa American Legion Post 324.
Ned’s favorite pastimes were centered around his family. He, along with his 6 brothers and 2 sisters, formed the all-Ammons baseball team in Findlay. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Helping family and friends was in Ned’s DNA, lending a hand to anyone, along with his big smile and free hugs!
Proceeding him in death were his parents; brothers, Russel, Don, Jack and Danny; and sisters, Neva Madsen and Jane Hill.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth; children, Linda Recker, Neil (Diane) Ammons and Carol (Mike Brisbin) Chappuis; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Steven (Yuki Takahaski) Recker, Sara (Ben) Wilkiemeyer, Melanie (Brian) Rogers, Corey (Katie Moore) Ammons, Natalie (Rob Broman) Ammons and Tina (Brock) Jaworski; and step-grandsons, Daniel (Jessica) Socie and Myles (Lexie Gower) Holliday. Ned was proud of his 15 great-grandchildren and his first great-great grandson due around his birthday in 2024.
Visitation will be held at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Genoa on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. Graveside Services will be held at Clay Township Cemetery on Monday, November 27, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m.
The family would like to thank the Genoa Retirement Village (ALF and SNF) and the nurses from Heartland Hospice for the kindness, comfort and exceptional care they provided.
