ND head football coach to address NFF scholar-athletes
University of Notre Dame head football coach Marcus Freeman will be the featured speaker at the 62nd National Football Foundation’s Scholar-Athlete banquet, which will be held Tuesday, March 12 at 6:45 p.m. at the Glass City Center, main floor Exhibition Hall in downtown Toledo.
At the banquet, the Toledo Wistert Chapter of the NFF will honor some 54 high school senior football players from throughout the region who have excelled on the field, in the classroom and in their communities this past season. Along with the athletes, 17 coaches will be honored as well as an assistant coach, a member of the media, an Unsung Player of the Year, the Tim Berta Courage Award winner and a number of scholarship winners.
Among the 2023 class of scholar-athletes to be honored are Andrew Badenhop, Austin Maize, Caiden Maize and Ian Sibbersen, from Eastwood; Aiden Brunkhorst, Caleb Gittus and Denver Stewart, from Genoa and Scott Smith, from Oak Harbor. Oak Harbor Coach Mike May is among coaches who will be honored.
In addition, the chapter will award some $20,000 in scholarships at the event.
Tickets for the banquet are $50 each and tables of 10 are $500. Prior to the banquet, at 4:45 p.m., there will be a VIP reception with Coach Freeman, which requires a special ticket. The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 23. Proceeds raised from the banquet will go toward scholarships. The Toledo/Wistert chapter of the National Football Foundation promotes the interest of amateur football throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan to 110 high schools.
