The Village of Millbury will observe its 150th year with a celebration Sept. 14.
A parade is scheduled to start at 12:30 and there will be food, music, activities for all ages, and more.
“We’re trying to make it a celebration of the village, and bring all the neighbors and everyone in the community together,” Kurt Schwamberger, a member of village council and an organizer of the event, said. “We want to show what Millbury has. We have about seven or so non-profit organizations between the school district and youth sports programs and scouts all participating. ’’
The parade will start at the corner of Earl and Cherry streets and proceed south on Main Street. From Main, the route continues to Vine and Center streets to the Fire Hall on Oak Street where it ends.
A classic car and truck show will be held at the Fire Hall from 12:30-4 p.m. The show is being hosted by the Northwest Ohio Street Machiners.
Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars and there will be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, and awards.
Registration is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
For auto show information contact Pete Lungulow at 419-865-7858.
Seven food trucks have been booked, Schwamberger said, and there will be vendors and a beer garden in the Fire Hall.
Live musical entertainment is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and there will also be miniature golf, face painting, raffles, and a home run derby in the softball field. Schwamberger said the band, Parallel Universe, will perform from 3-6 p.m. and Steve Kennedy will perform from 7-10 p.m.
Dinners will also be sold at the Fire Hall.
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is sponsoring carnival games for children, Schwamberger said.
Two years ago, St. Paul’s observed its 150th anniversary.
Schwamberger said organizations wanting to participate in the parade should contact him no later than Tuesday Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. The phone number is 419-346-1337.
According to a history of the village, residents filed a petition on June 1, 1874 to incorporate the village. The petition was granted Sept. 4 of that year.
The name of the village was decided by a coin flip.
