Mercy Health Mobile Mammography Van to visit area locations

Press Staff Writer

In an effort to better meet the needs of patients and community, Mercy Health’s mobile mammography unit has scheduled visits throughout the region in September.
Customized for patient convenience, the mobile mammography unit delivers mammograms to women age 40 and older. It is equipped with 3D technology and offers patients the option of self-compression, meaning the patient will have the ability to control the compression once she is in position.
Certified radiologists read all mammograms, and because a second look can mean a second chance, mammograms are double-checked with a computer-aided detection system that detects more breast cancer than mammography alone. The patient and her physician receive a copy of the results.
        September events include:
        • Sept. 14: Oregon Clinic, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - 3841 Navarre Ave., Oregon.
        • Sept. 15: Point Shoreland Family Medicine, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - 2755 Shoreland Ave., Toledo.

While mammogram screenings may be covered by insurance, for best coverage, patients should verify if Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital is an in-network provider with their insurance carrier. Financial need-based assistance programs are available for those who are uninsured or underinsured (have high deductibles). If eligible, patients may qualify for a no-cost mammogram.
