Mercy Health – Toledo Foundation to hold Day of Hope Oct. 20
Since opening its doors to the Toledo area community more than a year ago, the Mercy Health – Toledo Trauma Recovery Center has helped more than 800 victims of violent crime who have been referred for services.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has seen an even greater need to help victims of domestic violence and child abuse.
The Mercy Health – Toledo Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) was established in 2019 as a result of a grant from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and with help from Mercy Health. The TRC provides mental health care and victim advocacy for victims of crime and their families, as well as support in the form of emergency housing, transportation, food, and clothing.
A mother of a child who received TRC therapy services said this about the program: “I don’t know what we would have done without the support and counseling from the Trauma Recovery Center. We continue to work on healing. It’s a long road but we are on our way.”
Because community support for the TRC is needed more than ever now because of increased need, the Mercy Health – Toledo Foundation is sponsoring the Day of Hope on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Day of Hope will culminate a weeks-long campaign. Community members can support the TRC with a donation of money or an item from the TRC’s “wish list,” including art supplies, kids’ clothing and toys.
All opportunities to give are either virtual or drop off to ensure social distancing. Donations are also being accepted online by visiting www.helpmakemiracles.org/event/dayofhope or through the foundation’s Amazon Wishlist from its website. Items can be shipped directly to Mercy Health. To have the website sent directly to your phone, just text TRC to 51555.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the team will be outside of Black and White Transportation, 4665 W Bancroft St., Toledo, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone is welcome to drive by to make a donation or drop off an item from the foundation wish list.
Additional drop-off sites include Jed's at 7625 W. Sylvania Ave., Sylvania; Walt Churchill's Market, 3320 Briarfield Blvd., Maumee; and Walt Churchill's Market, 26625 N. Dixie Hwy., Perrysburg.
The foundation credited its Day of Hope sponsors, including Black and White Transportation, Dunbar Mechanical, RCO Law, and Rudolph Libbe.
