Mercy Health recently recognized the team at Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital, which earned an ‘A’ grade in The Leapfrog Group 2024 Spring Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care.
St. Charles elevated its grade from a B awarded in Fall 2023.
“A top grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects the commitment to quality care that the teams at Mercy Health provide to those we serve. I am proud to celebrate the physicians, nurses and staff at St. Charles for their tireless efforts in caring for our patients in a safe, healing environment,” said Bob Baxter, president, Mercy Health – Toledo. “Congratulations to the St. Charles team on this significant accomplishment.”
“Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital is honored to be listed among the top in the nation for our commitment to patient safety and quality care,” said Craig Albers, president, Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital. “This recognition shows that despite the many challenges that continue to face health care, St. Charles will always put the care of our patients first. I am proud of this team and applaud each and every member of the St. Charles family for their hard work.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“Everyone who works at Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication of at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank St. Charles Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
