Lawrence (Larry) Mominee
Larry Mominee, 72, from Bono, OH who proudly served his community and country, passed away surrounded by friends and family in his Florida home on August 6th.
Mr. Mominee was a 1970 graduate of Clay High School. Larry enlisted directly into the U.S. Army, where he dedicated himself to defending his country, namely serving in the Vietnam War. Larry’s commitment to protecting others extended beyond his military service as he also volunteered, and retired, as a Jerusalem Township firefighter for 21 years. Mr. Mominee was employed by CSX Transportation in Walbridge, OH, and ultimately retired from the company in Jacksonville, FL, after 38 years of service.
Mr. Mominee never met a stranger, striking up conversations with perfect strangers as if they were lifelong friends. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood, his military service, his siblings, children, and grandkids. Larry was an avid sports fan of the Buckeyes, Tigers, and Jaguars. He was an animal lover, especially his dogs, who will join him in rest. Above all, Larry cherished his annual summer trips back home to Ohio, to spend time with his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margie (Henning); his children Shannon (Adrienne) Mominee, Christopher Mominee, Chad Mominee, and Jim (Susan) Horvath; his six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; siblings Patricia Bodiford, Kathy Seimet, Michael (Alicia) Mominee, Timothy (Ruth) Mominee; and in-laws John (Brenda) Henning, Robert (LeeAnn) Henning, and Sheri Henning.
Mr. Mominee was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Dorothy Mominee, son Matthew Mominee, and brother William Mominee.
A memorial service to honor Larry’s life and service will be held on October 9th at the Jerusalem Township Fire Station in Curtice, OH. Visitation is at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. service and reception. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Jerusalem Township Volunteer Fire Department.
