Jennings, Bock return for Waite
This year, the Waite girls soccer team will get to play home games on the brand new field turf installed inside historic Mollenkopf Stadium.
Waite returns senior midfielder/forward Annabelle Jennings, senior midfielder Jacklyn Stults and junior forward Jada Bock for coach Erin Booth’s fifth season. Booth has a total of seven letter winners returning to the pitch this year.
Bock and Jennings have been the team’s top scorers the past two seasons. Jennings was a first team Alan Miller Jewelers All-Press selection and Bock was second team All-Press pick last year. Stults was honorable mention.
Heading up the defense will be Denasia Stuart, Amaya Peppers and Brenna Collins. Booth says the defensive trio bring “speed and aggression” to the fold. Stuart was an honorable mention All-Press selection last year.
“Our returning players are solid. They have great ball skills and speed, are great leaders on the field and have been playing together for awhile,” Booth said. “Our new players are also fast and aggressive and ready to play.
“Half the team this year is made up of first time players so it will take some time for the returning players to adjust to new players on the field with them.”
Waite lost two key seniors from last year’s team — first team All-Press defenseman Haylee Mitchell and second team All-Press defenseman Trinity Gonzales. (— Press Sports Editor J. Patrick Eaken)
