Genoa: Park improvements celebrated with ribbon-cuttings
The Village of Genoa recently held two ribbon-cutting events to mark improvements at Veterans Memorial Park.
Village officials and representatives of the Park District of Ottawa County held a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 30 to commemorate the extension of the North Coast Inland Trail to the village at Washington Street in Genoa.
The extension was paved and painted in early May. Trailhead improvements, including a bottle filling station, bicycle rack and bike repair station, will be installed during the summer.
The extension was funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the park district.
The village held another ribbon-cutting that day to commemorate the construction of a new building that will house a public restroom and concession stand at Veterans Memorial Park.
The building is located in the southwest corner of the park near the baseball/softball fields and opened in April.
Grants totaling $172,295 from the park district over two funding cycles paid for the building.
“It serves a dual purpose for the thousands who visit the ball fields and the thousands who use the North Coast Inland Trail,” said Thomas Bergman, village administrator. “If you’re scheduling a trek on the North Coast Inland Trail, you may want to plan accordingly. It’s a huge win,”
