Erwin Wegert

Erwin Wegert, 95, of Pemberville, Ohio, and former long-time resident of Elmore, Ohio, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 27 at the Genoa Retirement Village.  Born in Latvia to John and Emlie (Webert) Wegert on June 18, 1926, he immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island with his father and mother at nine months old.  As a 1944 graduate of Waite High School, he enjoyed dancing, swimming, skating, and diving.  He was married for 69 years to his beloved wife, Jean, who preceded him in death precisely 18 months to the day.  He had many hobbies, including photography, gardening, and winemaking.  As a couple, Erwin and Jean had many lifelong friends.  They enjoyed dancing to big band sounds as well as square dancing. He was dedicated to his family and blessed his children by participating with them in Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the YMCA and taking them on many summer vacations to sites and national parks across the country. 
Erwin enjoyed a long career as a skilled millwright with Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company (East Broadway Plant #4 and glass filming plant in Rossford).  Retiring in 1988 after 45 years with LOF,  he worked various jobs, including as a machine fabricator with Pump Services, Inc., road maintenance with Harris Township, and as a driver for Ottawa Country Transportation Agency.  Erwin was a life-long learner, taking classes at Terra Community College.  He was a member of Bethel Church in Elmore and a Mason for over 70 years. 
Erwin was a considerate, quiet, thoughtful man.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Otto Wegert, of Gates Mills, Ohio.  He is survived by his four boys, William (Marilou) Wegert, Dr. Steven Wegert, Matthew Wegert (Susan), and Theodore (Karen) Wegert; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury on Sunday, December 5 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.  A memorial service will follow at  4:00 pm Services will be livestreamed at www.egglestonmeinert.com click on Erwin’s OBITUARY >click TRIBUTE WALL > click LIVE WEBCAST..  Graveside service will be held at Elmore-Harris Union Cemetery at 10:00 am on Monday, December 6.
